Principal's Message...

Greetings, Timmons Families!

As we round out this week of September, we anticipate a burst of color soon, as Autumn is here. This past week, we had the opportunity to enjoy the new playground, as each class had its own special time to play and enjoy a special popsicle treat. The students also celebrated the International Day of Peace with a whole school gathering around this year's art project. Students were proud to point out the symbol they had constructed. This week, our district team of nurses and speech pathologists conducted vision and hearing screenings for students in Kdg, 1st grade, and 3rd grade. Many thanks to our parent volunteers who helped to keep the screenings on time.

Looking ahead, you can expect more communication about the school picture day, scheduled for October 9. Please enjoy this update as we review some of the past events in which our students participated.

Sincerely,

Dave Rogaliner

International Day of Peace

Celebrating a Culture of Inclusion and Peace..

START WITH HELLO WEEK brings attention to the possibility of social isolation in our schools and communities, and empowers people to create a culture of inclusion and connectedness.

During the week of September 15, we celebrated by making daily announcements that focused on the importance of including others and making Timmons a welcoming community.

Students had the opportunity to participate in activities that fostered a sense of acceptance, inclusion, and kindness for all students. Including a chance to sign a school-wide pledge banner and to reach out to someone who might feel alone.

Activities also included learning how to say “Hello” in a different language and listening to administrators read aloud stories about kindness and belonging.

As a culminating event, on Friday, September 19, Timmons Elementary School celebrated the International Day of Peace. This day is observed around the world annually on September 21. The UN General Assembly has declared this a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace. Students worked with Mrs. Seitz and Mrs. Rolf to create their own symbols of peace with Model Magic. These symbols were then brought together to create a single, large art installation, illustrating the many meanings of peace to our own students. The artwork will be on display in one of our glass cases until a more permanent location is designated in the building.

As the culminating event came to a close, students sang together the song "Peace is the World Smiling" after hearing more about this important day.

Song Lyrics: Peace is the world smiling. Peace is a gentle dove. Peace is sharing.  Peace is caring. Peace is filling the world with love.

The October PEAK character trait is RESPECT... While defining respect may not always be consistent, there is one kid-friendly definition that is universal: treat others as you would like

to be treated.

"Respect is caring or being kind to someone.

An example is if you are honest, you will be respected."

Leo Clemens, Class of 2034
