Support VIDF 's 2021-2022 Digital Season!
June is here and so is the Great Canadian Giving Challenge! Every $1 you donate to the VIDF in the month of June will enter us to win $20,000 from CanadaHelps! This is 1 entry for every $1 ($20 = 20 entries) and includes donations made to the VIDF’s Lamondance events June 18-20.

With your support, we were able to transform the 2021 festival into a livestream program, and digital presentations are here to stay! Artists still need the resources to develop their work with the camera and share it digitally.

We need your help to launch a fall livestream series so that we can continue supporting local artists and technicians with creative opportunities and income! And, in order to program this series for the fall, we need the funding before the end of June.

Help us WIN! Public sector funding only covers a portion of the season we hope to present. Your donation will enter us to win $20,000 - enough to produce the livestream performances of 2 dance companies. Beyond the chance to win, every dollar you donate to the VIDF's operations will increase the time and equipment available to dance artists this fall!

Dance Artists and Writers in Conversation :“South Asian Dance”
Exploring What It Means

BC-based dance artists Sujit Vaidya and Ahalya Satkunaratnam join Ontario-based dance writer Brannavy Jeyasundaram in a unique virtual conversation on June 9, 2021, at 12 p.m. PST. to discuss and explore the layers and parameters of the term ‘South Asian’ as it relates to Canadian dance, moderated by Pratibha Arts’ Artistic Director Bageshree Vaze. “South Asian is not ‘one thing, just as ‘diverse’ is not a common experience, and yet we find ourselves needing to identify ourselves in this way,” says Vaze. “The experience of a Sri Lankan is vastly different from that of an Indian or a Pakistani. Also because these dances from an ancient culture, they’re not perceived as contemporary.

It’s important for presenters to be aware of these layers as they go forth and build audiences.” The zoom session is hosted by Pratibha Arts in association with Made in BC – Dance on Tour. Pratibha Arts in association with Made in BC – Dance on Tour.

The VIDF is grateful for the support of the federal, provincial and municipal governments. This support has enabled us to smoothly pivot to a livestream festival. However, with the ongoing challenges the pandemic poses, we need the support of individual patrons such as yourselves to ensure our future. Please consider donating if you can.
