Level Up Your Course (re)Design

CELT provides faculty across campus with engaging professional development programming to level up course design throughout their teaching careers.

These resources help to improve instruction for students and can lead to faculty seeking external certification from Quality Matters (QM), a global organization dedicated to quality assurance in online education.

Dr. John Monroe, a professor in the Department of History, recently participated in three of these opportunities: Course Design Institute, Applying the Quality Matters online workshop, and Improving Your Online Course 3-week asynchronous course.

“Having a chance to engage directly with multiple experts is invaluable,” he said of the experience. Read more about what Monroe learned in An 'odyssey' in quality course design: Professor details experience with CELT resources.

Congratulations to four instructors whose courses were

QM-certified this summer:

  • Kevin Kasper, STAT 305, Engineering Statistics
  • Daniel Dobill, AGRON 502, Chemistry, Physics, and Biology of Soils
  • David Cantor, SCM/MIS 440, Supply Chain Information Systems
  • Jacqulyn Baughman, ME 270, Introduction to Mechanical Engineering Design

We applaud your dedication to your students and work in obtaining this certification!

OER: Call for Participation

2023 Communities of Practice

The Iowa Open Education Action Team is excited to announce the second annual call for participation for our OER Communities of Practice! The purpose of these communities of practice (CoPs) is to support instructors across the state who want to connect with peers over a shared interest in open educational resources (OER).

Participants in this program will have the chance to foster connections, build expertise, and identify, adapt, or create OER to support their work. This year, instructional designers are also encouraged to apply to build connections with the instructors in the CoPs.

This free program will have limited availability, with only the 3-4 teams* created based on the disciplines with the highest level of expressed interest. Even if you applied last year and were unable to participate, we encourage you to reapply.

$100 will be provided at the end of the academic year to support individuals who participate.

Timeline

  • Applications are due: September 15, 2023
  • Applicants will be notified about the status: September 29, 2023
  • Kickoff event with guest speaker: October 9, 2023
