just a few miles of our West Michigan Shoreline. Did you know that there is a group based in
Holland MI that has found, researched and documented hundreds of these wrecks? SJRYC is pleased and very excited to add what is sure to be a
spell binding presentation to our Speakers' Series entitled LOST

this program will spark your passions. Mark your calendars for Fri. Sept. 24th

SJRYC Picture Albums
Popular event pictures are now available...
Last season, the club secured photo space
that allowed us to publish pictures on the web for everyone to enjoy!
We would like to ensure that every event moving forward has a great
"photographic record" kept that allows those that didn't make it to
check out the fun or those that did make it to relive the experience.
Click the link below to look at pictures of our recent BBQ Cook-off

BUtterfield 8 by John O'Hara
Sunday, October 3, 2010 4:00 A bestseller upon its publication in 1935, BUtterfield 8
was inspired by a news account of the discovery of the body of a beautiful
young woman washed up on a Long Island beach. Was it an accident, a murder, a
suicide? The circumstances of her death were never resolved, but O'Hara seized
upon the tragedy to imagine the woman's down-and-out life in New York City in
the early 1930s.
"O'Hara understood better than any other American writer how class can both
reveal and shape character," Fran Lebowitz writes in her Introduction. With
brash honesty and a flair for the unconventional, BUtterfield 8 lays
bare the unspoken and often shocking truths that lurked beneath the surface of
a society still reeling from the effects of the Great Depression. The result is
a masterpiece of American fiction.
Ten
Little Indians (And There Were None) by Agatha Christie
Sunday,
November 7, 2010 4:00
Agatha Christie was already famous when AND THEN THERE WERE
NONE (also known under the title TEN LITTLE INDIANS) was published--but this
book put her career well over the top: nothing like it had seen before, it
proved a sensation, and writers and film-makers continue to use Christie's
basic idea to this very day. Some critics argue the novel is mechanical rather
than organic, but I say if this is mechanical, let's have more of it! It is
truly a can't-put-it-down, non-stop read, a spectacular turn by the genre's single
most celebrated author.
''There is no cheating; the reader is just bamboozled in a
straightforward way from first to last... The most colossal achievement of a
colossal career. The book must rank with Mrs Christie's previous best -- on the
top notch of detectio.
