PIC OF THE WEEK
They understood the assignment!
WHAT'S BEEN HAPPENING
Staff and students alike are getting fancy with the 12 Days of Christmas Dress Up fun! Keep it going - 2 more days to go!
Third graders from all three elementary schools came together last week to celebrate the sounds of the season with a chorus concert. It was beautiful!
TGS bears have had fun with their elfin friends this week!
Students watched a video instructing them how to draw an Elf on the Shelf. These four students worked the hardest to follow each step and to make theirs look the most like the elf demonstrated. All the students voted, and Will was chosen as the winner of the class!
TGS 4th graders took a field trip last week to Gray-8-Skate. While it was certainly fun, it also was educational as it featured a STEM lesson on Newton's 3 Laws of Motion & was taught by a STEM certified instructor. The students completed an experiment with a skate predicting/ measuring motion & the impact that weight has on the motion of an object. They then were able to implement what they'd learned with some fun - skating!

The students enjoyed the experiment and opportunity to practice science in real life!
Special thanks to these generous donors who helped to provide the doodlers for TGS Soar classes:

LET'S CELEBRATE
Special thanks to Christina Barfield of The Horace Mann Companies for sponsoring our 2nd Annual Staff Gingerbread House contest! TGS teachers and staff divided up into groups based on their first initial and put their creative skills to the test. After an extensively shared online voting campaign, the winning design is Candyland Manor AKA The Doghouse by the M's!
We are so proud of our TGS Electric Cubs who participated in a regional level competition held at Rock Springs Elementary in McDonough. Students completed robot table missions to earn points, and TGS placed 8th in this mission. They also completed and presented an innovative project that if implemented, would help their community. They then completed a project on their robot's design and core values of FLL (First Lego League). All of the presentations and table runs were added together to get a score which will determine whether or not they get to go to Super Regionals in January. Stay tuned for the decision, but in the meantime, congratulate these super students!
Dr. Mike Hickman and Mrs. Alicia Elder attended the monthly TGS faculty meeting to present the banner for TGS once again being named a Title 1 Distinguished School!

LITERACY NEWS
TGS Student Book Review

Max Whitehead recommends
Dog Man (the series)
by Dav Pilkey

Max Whitehead is a 2nd grader in Mrs. Web's class who recommends the Dav Pilkey series, Dog Man. He loves these books and is rapidly working his way through all of them! Max says the books will make you laugh because "Dog Man is a dog headed cop who works hard to solve crimes and chews on bones."
These bears never stop reading! Members of TGS Club Tome tested over these 3 titles, & Rescue by Jennifer Nielsen was their top pick! We are proud of these students' commitment to the team.
