18 cubs survived this year at CCRCGP.  Part of the 1000KG (2205lbs) of Esbilac milk formula You  sent to the pandas went to Chimelong Safari Park and is allowing the first set of surviving triplets to thrive.

Immobilization Devises are imperative when an animal is sick or injured and must be sedated.  Since it is not safe to approach an injured animal either in the wild or in captivity, for the safety of the vets and the animal, they must be able to immobilize the animal from a safe distance. 

Thanks to You, supplies were delivered this summer.

Reintroduction Research

GPS Collars are vital to the reintroduction research and the monitoring of Pandas released into the wild. Lotek collars were provided by You and delivered for the program. Xue Xue was released this fall and equipped with a GPS collar provided by You.

Medicines

Pandas are prone to worms, so worming paste was delivered to the pandas, thanks to You. Other medications were also delivered several times this year.  Supplies and assays needed for breeding and Artificial Insemination were also provided by You.

Continuing Education and equipping the Laboratory at Dujiangyan

You sent Western University's physiologist, David Kersey, PhD, an expert in panda research and reproduction to the new labs at Dujiangyan to continue the training of lab procedures and protocols.

Dr. Kersey and Morgan Mali from the Smithsonian Institute spent two weeks setting up the labs and training staff. The lab needed a drying manifold which You provided for their ability to get lab results from fecal matter in addition to urine, which was delivered by Dr. Kersey. In addition, You provided a Bio Tek Microplate reader to the new lab. Since part of Dujiangyan's mission is to help with the study of panda related diseases, they needed the BioTek microplate reader to study panda fecal matter to better diagnose existing or potential medical conditions. In the study of Giant Pandas the instrument may be used to better understand what causes different types of panda related illnesses such as the gastro-intestinal problems that Tai Shan and other pandas experience.  And what a wonderful gift to a brand new center to support not only Tai but his Grandpa, Pan Pan, Lin Ping, Yun Zi and pandas everywhere.

Staff Appreciation

We never want to forget the staff who works everyday taking care of our beloved pandas, so You provided for a wonderful Staff Appreciation Dinner hosted by Director, Suzanne Braden. EMI and Image West provided tee shirts for all the staff members which were greatly appreciated.

Adoptions and Sponsorships

103 pandas were adopted during 2014! And approximately 50 of You sponsored a panda- which helps provide for their care at the Centers.

Pennies 4 Panda, Birthday Parties, Schools, Panda Protectors

Hundreds of youthful supporters participated in Panda Projects and raised over $12,000 for the Giant Pandas this year.
