SUMMER WILL BE COOLER THIS YEAR!!!!!

Dear Golden Friends:

Congratulations to all who made the purchase and installation of a large emergency generator for the Sanctuary building and abutting Isolation Unit a reality.

A Special Thank You to the many anonymous donors  who participated in our loveanimals.org project and to  all the other Golden people who contributed to the fund  to make the generator possible. THIS WILL HELP KEEP THE GOLDENS ALWAYS COOL THIS SUMMER if the power goes out. PLUS, other important reasons for the emergency generator is for light and heat in the winter and water brought into the sanctuary via well pumps year-round... no power/no pumps/no water!!!!

This November, to fund-raise for all the kibble, canned food, prescription diets both dry and canned, the special on-site home- made meals to appeal to the most debilitated residents, treats, heat, electricity, air-conditioning and emergency power coverage for the Sanctuary and abutting Isolation Unit for the entire year of 2017, we will hold a major on line Silent Auction.

A goal of 10,000 individuals will be contacted from coast to coast via e-mail, Facebook, and other social media avenues and invited to participate in this auction which will be held November 5th-12th.Please share this information and invitation to participate with family and friends.

This auction will have something for everyone. The auction is being planned to be a great place for people to do their Holiday shopping. We hope people feel good about getting a nice gift for friends or family via bidding at the auction and at the same time they will be helping the Sanctuary Golden Oldies. We want to stress to each of you that people who have enough " Golden Themed" items in their homes ( we truly understand) can do bidding in this auction for items that will be great for your family and friends on your Holiday gift list and will also directly provide care and safety for Sanctuary Golden Oldies in need.

We are accepting, with great appreciation, any auction items from people who would like to contribute things for the event. Think non-doggy items too! Send your items or gift certificates to GRSRS&EC, P.O.Box 484, North Reading, MA 01864 as soon as possible so we can organize this very special and very large Silent Auction.

Have a great GOLDEN week from everyone at GRSRS&EC!

Sky loves to read to! Her favorite is  Modern Dog Magazine!
Look for these articles in the summer issue.....

SURVIVING SUMMER by Dr. Heather Loenser
MODERNDOG  SUMMER 2016 Pages 58-59
Indiscriminate Eater Alert!
This vet's number one surgery during the summer is removing CORN COBS from dogs' intestines! Peach pits rank a close second. See how to prevent these situations.

Heat Stroke Isn't Cool
Read the article to best understand this subject, but of note was the mention that ......A common misconception is that you should drench the dog in cold water right away. This is exactly what not to do. A rapid decrease in body temperature can potentially cause life-threatening shock. This is an article that should be on your reading list. Either buy the magazine MODERNDOG  SUMMER 2016 or read it at the Library. Most libraries have copies of this magazine in their magazine section and you can also take it out to share with others. This can truly be a life- saving TIPS and TAILS.
