Monthly News & Updates

September 2025 | Issue 46

Welcome to the Every Brain Matters monthly newsletter. We are a non-profit organization founded by families negatively impacted by commercial marijuana. We are dedicated to empowering individuals with the knowledge and resources they need to navigate the challenges of marijuana normalization.

Through education, advocacy, and community building, we strive to ensure that no one faces this journey alone. Join us as we work together to make informed choices and promote understanding because every brain truly matters!

*Throughout this newsletter, the terms “marijuana” and “cannabis” are used interchangeably.

Spotlight

This month, we highlight two Spotlights: one from Colorado and another from Texas. If you would like to submit a blog or video to be featured in our newsletter, please email us at info@everybrainmatters.org.

Colorado is confronting serious issues due to legal marijuana. Please watch and share this video to help spread awareness of the true and devastating costs.

Texas data and national health warnings highlight an urgent public health problem that demands decisive action. Families and communities cannot shoulder this burden alone; Governor Abbott must call a third special session, and the Texas Legislature must restore guardrails to protect Texas children by implementing a ban on retail THC products and supporting robust enforcement.

Advocacy In Action

Every Brain Matters is not just an organization; it is a national movement of families united to educate communities and advocate for change. Below, you will find a list of advocacy efforts. We encourage you to engage in any of these action items that are relevant to your situation.

Tell President Trump to STOP the Rescheduling of Marijuana

Sign the petition: Don't Reschedule Marijuana.

Reclassifying marijuana as a Schedule III drug will give a tax break to Big Marijuana and foreign drug cartels. Make your voice heard today.

Let's Hold the Marijuana Industry Accountable!

My organization, Cannabis Industry Victims Educating Litigators (CIVEL), educates attorneys to understand the damage that marijuana use causes and how to litigate these cases on behalf of people who have been injured. As part of this crucial work, CIVEL is also involved in marijuana litigation. The following lawsuits, which CIVEL is involved in, show how dangerous weed and hemp-derived THC are and why we need every safeguard against them imaginable.

If marijuana industry products have harmed you or a loved one, you are not alone. You can explore legal resources, current lawsuits, and ways to take action here.

A Class Action lawsuit is forming in Illinois. If you or a loved one has been negatively affected by any cannabis products bought from an Illinois state store in the past two years, please get in touch with Nick Villicana at villicananick44@gmail.com

As states liberalize marijuana laws, the cannabis industry has expanded rapidly in a race to dominate market share before the implementation of meaningful regulations. The industry is selling potent cannabis products, with THC levels ranging up to 100%, while also marketing these dangerous products with bright packaging, flavors, and names intended to be attractive to young adults. With the increase in potency and youth-oriented marketing, there is a new epidemic of cannabis related injuries, including cannabis-induced psychosis, a severe and potentially devastating lifelong injury.

Moment of Science

Through our Dispensing Truth project, Every Brain Matters equips communities with science-based tools to challenge marijuana misinformation using appealing graphics and clear facts.

The Voices of Marijuana's Harms

Misconceptions about marijuana as a "harmless substance" remain pervasive. Our mission is to empower the public and government officials with real stories from families who’ve experienced marijuana's devastating effects. Please read our latest story and learn more about this project here.

Hope For Recovery

We understand that families often feel isolated in a world where marijuana use is becoming increasingly normalized. Supporting a loved one who is affected by marijuana can be overwhelming. To assist you, we have created recovery resources for families that will help you navigate this new era of widespread marijuana use. We aim to help you discover healing pathways, gain valuable recovery tools, and build healthier relationships. We invite you to attend our family support meetings and utilize the resources available to you. All the meetings we offer are located under the meeting tab on our website.

In September, we feature Alex K., a young man who survived CIP, cannabis-induced psychosis.

In October, we feature Cynthia Portugal, a certified life coach and family consultant.

Moment of Silence

Our memorial honors and remembers those who have died due to marijuana-related harms and serves as a reminder of why we continue this critical fight.

This memorial publicly expresses the life-changing effects of marijuana.

Sharing stories during times of crisis takes courage, and it can also serve as an opportunity to protect another person’s life. If you have lost someone you love due to marijuana-related harm, we encourage you to share their story with us. Your voice is essential and may inspire change in others. Together, we can advocate for a better future. Please contact us at info@everybrainmatters.org to share your story.
