THE 2nd POSTPARTUM SUPPORT INTERNATIONAL TRAVELING MEMORY QUILT IS IN THE MAKING!!
|
A quilt is never just fabric sewn together. It’s an expression of joy, love, sadness, loss, and hope. It is the comfort of a warm embrace or a lasting memory.

Postpartum Support International and Donna Kreuzer
have been searching for names and
permission for all 38 hearts for our new quilt.
We still have several
hearts available to honor a loved one(s) who unfortunately lost their battle
to this most horrific disorder. If anyone would like to have the name of a
loved one on this new quilt, please do not hesitate to contact me, Donna C.
Kreuzer, by phone 713-854-4047 or email donnakreuzer@gmail.com. If there
are children/or other family members who unfortunately lost their lives a
well, we would also love to honor them. There is no fee involved, but we do
need permission from the next of kin to have the name(s) on the quilt! Feel
free to call me with any questions! We will continue taking names even
after this quilt is completely constructed, as my professional quilter will
be able to embroider additional names on the quilt at a later date.
I urge anyone who has been affected by PPD/PPP/PMAD to please join in on the
"fight" to bring more awareness and an end to this horrid condition that
many beautiful Mothers so needlessly and sometimes tragically suffer from
during the most important part of their lives. Be a champion for your wife
your daughter, your friend, your sister, your niece, your cousin, your loved
one, so that they can be AND enjoy, the beautiful role of "Mommy"....they
deserve our support and undying love!!!

The origins of our quilt began with PSI founder, Jane Honikman, and her 2001 Call for Names Project. This project honored the memory of women who died because of a postpartum mood disorder. Beginning in 2002 these names have been read aloud each year at PSI’s annual conference. In 2005 Nancy Roberts, Michigan PSI coordinator, suggested to Jane and Wendy Davis, Postpartum Support International’s executive director, the concept of creating a queen sized memory quilt; they readily agreed. Nancy’s sister, Jane Leslie, died by suicide during a severe, undiagnosed and untreated postpartum mood disorder. The creation was a family affair; her mom donated fabric and sisters, Becky Keck and Sue Castor, along with sister-in-law, Virginia Latz, all worked on the quilt. There is a picture on the bottom of the quilt of Jane Leslie and her 3 sisters. This beautiful piece of art was revealed for the first time at the 2006 New Jersey PSI conference.

From PSI Board President Ann Smith, CNM
Time rushes by at PSI. I am honored to have been re-elected as President for two more years, but it's hard for me to realize that the first two have sped by. We are a busy organization on the move with many new projects in the works which, we hope, will improve the lives of women and families suffering with perinatal mood disorders. I'd like you to know about a few new PSI initiatives.
