Turning Change into Opportunity

Dear Members and Friends,

One of the greatest strengths of our business community is our ability to adapt, innovate, and seize new opportunities. This month's newsletter reflects that spirit.

Inside this issue, you'll find a timely Business Brief on the latest U.S. tariffs and what they could mean for your business. While changes in global trade can create uncertainty, they also remind us of the importance of staying informed, planning ahead, and building strong partnerships.

You'll also read about two remarkable Taiwanese success stories—Foxconn and YouTube co-founder Steve Chen—as part of our America's 250 series. Their achievements are powerful reminders of the profound impact Asian innovators and entrepreneurs continue to have on America's economy, technology industry, and global competitiveness.

As we look ahead, Houston will become the gathering place for Asian American business leaders from across the country. I encourage you to join us for the 2026 National ACE Annual Conference and UNITY 2026, two outstanding events that will bring together innovators, founders, executives, and community leaders for learning, collaboration, and inspiration.

If you know a former Chamber member, please encourage them to take advantage of our Welcome Back Summer Membership offer. We look forward to welcoming familiar faces back into our community as we begin an exciting new chapter.

Business Brief:

What New Tariffs Could Mean for Your Business

If your business imports products, materials, or components—or works with suppliers who do—you'll want to pay close attention to the latest changes in U.S. trade policy.

New Section 301 tariffs, which took effect on July 24, impose additional duties of 10% to 12.5% on imports from approximately 60 trading partners, including China, the European Union, the United Kingdom, Mexico, and Canada. The new tariffs apply to a wide range of imported goods and could increase costs for businesses across multiple industries.

What Does This Mean for Your Business?

Even if you don't import products directly, you could still feel the impact through higher supplier costs, increased shipping expenses, or price adjustments from vendors.

Now is a good time to:

  • Review your supply chain to identify products that may be affected.
  • Talk with your suppliers about potential cost increases and inventory availability.
  • Evaluate pricing strategies if higher import costs could affect your margins.
  • Consider diversifying suppliers to help reduce future supply chain risks.
  • Plan ahead for purchases to minimize disruptions and unexpected expenses.

While the long-term impact of these tariffs remains to be seen, staying informed and planning proactively can help your business remain competitive in a changing global marketplace.

The Chamber encourages members engaged in international trade to monitor developments closely and consult with their customs broker, freight forwarder, or trade advisor to understand how these changes may affect their specific business operations.

America's 250:

Taiwanese Innovation That Changed the Way America Connects

As the United States celebrates its 250th birthday, the Asian Chamber is recognizing the Asian businesses and innovators whose vision, entrepreneurship, and technological breakthroughs have helped shape America's economy and way of life.

Few stories better illustrate that impact than those of Hon Hai Technology Group (Foxconn) and Steve Chen, two Taiwanese success stories whose contributions have transformed the global technology industry.

Founded in Taiwan in 1974, Foxconn has grown into the world's largest electronics manufacturer and one of the world's leading technology companies. With $259 billion in annual revenue in 2025, the company manufactures many of the devices and components that power our everyday lives while driving innovation in artificial intelligence, electric vehicles, robotics, semiconductors, and advanced communications. Its presence extends around the globe, including a major technology and manufacturing hub in Houston.

While Foxconn helped build the hardware powering the digital age, Steve Chen helped transform how the world uses it.

Born in Taipei, Taiwan, Chen immigrated to the United States at age 15 and went on to co-found YouTube in 2005, serving as the company's first Chief Technology Officer. At a time when sharing video online was slow and complicated, Chen developed the technology that made it simple for anyone to upload, watch, and share videos.

His work revolutionized communication, education, entertainment, and marketing while helping launch today's multi-billion-dollar creator economy. Millions of entrepreneurs, educators, artists, and small businesses now use online video to reach audiences, build brands, and create new economic opportunities.

Together, Foxconn and Steve Chen represent two sides of the same technological revolution—one building the world-class hardware that powers innovation, the other creating the software platform that changed how the world communicates. Their achievements demonstrate the lasting impact Taiwanese entrepreneurs and companies have had on the American technology industry and global economy.

As we commemorate America's 250th anniversary, we celebrate innovators like Foxconn and Steve Chen whose ideas, investments, and technological leadership continue to strengthen America's economy, fuel innovation, and inspire future generations.
