🙏 In the coming weeks, our board members and membership committee will be reaching out to current, past, and potential members to learn more about you, your businesses, and how the Chamber can provide the most value to your membership.

Thank you for your continued support. Let’s make 2025 a year of innovation, resilience, and impact. We look forward to seeing you at the 35th Anniversary Gala—let’s celebrate and shape the future together!

Exploring San Francisco’s Historic Chinatown:

A Model for Community and Business Growth

The Asian Chamber recently had the privilege of visiting San Francisco’s historic Chinatown, the oldest and one of the most vibrant Chinatowns in North America. This immersive experience provided valuable insights into how history, culture, and community intersect to uplift and support generations of Asian Americans. From healthcare institutions to cultural celebrations, Chinatown exemplifies a thriving model of sustainability, economic growth, and cultural preservation.

A Legacy of Service and Community

Our visit included a tour of the Chinese Hospital, a vital healthcare institution that has served the community since 1925, providing culturally competent medical care tailored to the needs of its residents. We also had the opportunity to visit senior housing facilities and veterans’ organizations, learning how these services preserve dignity and enhance the quality of life for Asian American elders and those who have served our country.

Lessons in Growth and Sustainability

From healthcare to economic development, Chinatown’s success offers key takeaways for business and community growth, including:

  • ✅ Culturally Competent Services – Tailored healthcare and senior services play a crucial role in building strong, thriving communities.
  • ✅ Balancing History and Progress – Preserving cultural heritage while fostering economic growth creates a sustainable, resilient neighborhood.
  • ✅ Community-Led Initiatives – Grassroots efforts and local leadership drive impactful, long-term success.

Experiencing the Historic Chinese New Year Festival & Parade

The Asian Chamber had the incredible opportunity to experience the Chinese New Year Festival & Parade in San Francisco—one of the most spectacular Lunar New Year celebrations in the world! Recognized as one of the top ten parades globally by the International Festivals & Events Association and a USA Today 10 Best Readers’ Choice award winner, this dazzling nighttime event is the largest Lunar New Year parade outside of Asia and one of the last illuminated parades in North America.

Beyond the breathtaking performances and vibrant festivities, the parade represents the deep connection between heritage, history, and economic impact. Events like these serve as powerful platforms for:

  • ✅ Boosting Economic Growth – Lunar New Year celebrations attract visitors, stimulate local businesses, and support Asian-owned enterprises.
  • ✅ Preserving Cultural Traditions – From the awe-inspiring Golden Dragon, carried by over 100 people, to traditional lion dances and floats, the event showcases the resilience and pride of the Asian American community.
  • ✅ Fostering Cross-Cultural Connections – By bringing together people from all backgrounds, the festival highlights the importance of cultural exchange and unity.

Bringing Ideas Back to Houston

Inspired by the best practices and cultural experiences we observed, we look forward to applying these insights to our work in Houston and beyond. From strengthening community-led initiatives to creating economic opportunities through cultural celebrations, we are excited to bring these lessons home. Stay tuned for more highlights from our visit and upcoming initiatives that will help us continue building stronger, more connected communities for future generations!

A Night of Connection and Community

The Asian Chamber of Commerce’s VIP Lunar New Year Celebration was more than just a festive gathering—it was a heartfelt reunion of business and community leaders, a night filled with stories, laughter, and meaningful connections.

Held in an intimate setting, the evening began with the mesmerizing sounds of Guzheng and Pipa performers, setting the tone for a celebration rooted in culture and tradition. Chamber Board Chair Fan Chen and Chamber Foundation Chair Sydney Dao welcomed guests, emphasizing the Chamber’s commitment to empowering the Asian business community.

Throughout the night, attendees enjoyed delicious cuisine while hearing from Comerica Bank, a key supporter of the Chamber’s mission. A highlight of the evening was the Chamber Overview, which provided insights into Houston’s economic landscape and upcoming Chamber initiatives. Looking ahead, the Chair’s Vision for 2025 inspired members to continue fostering growth and collaboration.

Beyond the speeches and formalities, what truly made the night special were the conversations shared at every table. The room buzzed with camaraderie as guests exchanged business insights, personal reflections, and laughter.

Familiar faces like Richard Cole, Gordon Quan, David Schein, and Rogene Gee Calvert were there, offering a reminder of just how far the Chamber has come. What began as a Lunar New Year celebration soon felt more like a family reunion—a heartfelt gathering where connections deepened, memories were shared, and new friendships took root.
