Homebuyer Traffic Is on the Rise:
One of the biggest surprises of 2020 is the resilience of the residential real estate market. Lawrence Yun, Chief Economist of the National Association of Realtors (NAR), is now forecasting that more homes will sell this year than last year. He’s also predicting home sales to increase by 8-12% next year. There’s strong evidence that he will be right.
“Home buyer traffic jumped again in July, recording a 60.7 percent year-over-year increase in nationwide showing activity.”
That means there are 60% more buyers setting appointments to see homes than there were at this same time last year. The number of potential purchasers was also up dramatically in every region of the country:
• The Northeast was up 76.6%
• The West was up 56.7%
• The Midwest was up 52.1%
• The South was up 46.7%
The Housing Market Is Showing a ‘V’ Type Recovery
ShowingTime also indicates the real estate market has already come back from the downturn earlier this year that was caused by shelter-in-place orders. Here are the year-over-year numbers for each region on a monthly basis
We’re way ahead of where we were at this time last year. This data validates the thoughts of Frank Martell, President and CEO of CoreLogic, who recently noted: “On an aggregated level, the housing economy remains rock solid despite the shock and awe of the pandemic.”

Remote Work is Influencing Decisions to Buy
Typically, home shoppers would have to take their daily commute into consideration when thinking about buying a particular house. No one likes sitting in traffic, so generally speaking, the closer to work you live, the better.
These days, though, the coronavirus has changed the way we work and it's beginning to change how and where we live as well.
In short, the fact that more Americans are able to work from home is starting to drive decisions about where to buy a house. For example, a recent survey conducted on behalf of the National Association of Realtors' consumer website found that 63 percent of respondents who were planning on buying a home in the next year indicated their decision was influenced by their ability to work remotely. George Ratiu, senior economist for the site, says the pandemic has given potential buyers options they didn't previously have.
"The ability to work remotely is expanding home shoppers' geographic options and driving their motivation to buy, even if it means a longer commute, at least in the short term," Ratiu said. "Although it's too early to tell what long-term impact the COVID-era of remote work will have on housing, it's clear that the pandemic is shaping how people live and work under the same roof."
Low inventory has been the housing market's main challenge since well before the coronavirus pandemic began. Since its onset, though, the number of homes for sale has moved even lower.
That means, in many markets, there are more interested buyers than available homes.
"The housing market across the United States pulled something of a high-wire act in the second quarter, surging forward despite the encroaching economic headwinds resulting from the coronavirus pandemic," Teta said.

As for our bi-weekly Addison Reserve real estate update, we now have 34 homes on the market for sale. Our prices range from $299,000-$2,650,000 of which 6 have Sports Memberships and 28 have Golf Memberships. There are 10 Estate homes on the market for sale and 24 Zero Lot Line homes.
All and all, it has been a fairly busy two weeks for Addison. Now that the Jewish holidays, Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur are past, many home shoppers went back on the trail, as much as COVID would allow. Two magnificent homes closed this week. The first, on Sarimento Place. This 4 bedroom/4.5 bathroom plus office home was asking $1,195,000. The second home is located at 7611 Isla Verde Way. This estate home certainly has the WOW factor! We were fortunate enough to have both the listing as well as the buyer. This 5 bedrooms/5.2 bathrooms plus office, southern exposure, lake & golf views, asking $2,995,000. Congratulations to all the buyers and we wish all the sellers much happiness, one of which is already a member in residence.
This week, there was one new listing. A fantastic estate home in Brookfield Estates Way. This homes has 5 bedrooms and 6.5 bathrooms, plus office, with 4,936 sq. ft. under air. Also, this home has golf membership and golf views and is listed for $1,899,900.

Great news for the Club and the Community! The new Platinum Club rankings have just come out and we are now ranked #5 of the top 150 Platinum Country Clubs in the country. Congratulations to Michael McCarthy our CEO and GM, to the management team he has put together, our incredible staff, our Board, committee members, and to our membership that has always looked to the future.
But, with all the components that go into our fabulous recognition, the spotlight goes to Michael McCarthy personally. Let me give you a little bit of history. Michael came to Addison nearly 15 years ago with a vision on how a country club should be managed and operated. At that time, it was a very unusual approach to have operations done by professionals, not members. Michael convinced the Board at that time to try his style for one year and the rest is history - we took off flying at 40 thousand feet and never looked back under his leadership. His experience running both member owned clubs and developer owned clubs gave us insight on the differences. His goal driven versus agenda driven approach has been well documented in the industry and has led Addison to the incredible success we have had.
The Seven Selection Criteria for Platinum Clubs of America are recommended, frequently reviewed and approved by the Club Leaders Forum Advisory Board. Addison Reserve has come a long way, and much of that success is due to Michael’s leadership, inspiration and vision of what it means to live in the best place in the world. We have made incredible progress since being first recognized as a Platinum Club in 2009. We have advanced from no ranking to the top 5 in the country. There is no other club in America that has climbed the ladder like we have. More importantly, our overall scoring numbers have improved tremendously. Two years ago we were 10 points away from being # 1 and ranked no 7 of the top 150 Platinum Country Clubs in the country. We are now in the top 5 and only 3 points away from #1.
Nearly 10,000 ballots were sent out to General Managers and Presidents and over 82% were returned. We are the smallest club in the top 14 slots, which is more impressive. I would like to give a big thank you to our Members around the globe that continue to spread the word about how wonderful Addison Reserve and its “bubble” in this time of health concern for all of us. Clearly, with these results, Presidents and General Managers around the world who have never been on our property know our story and who we are. Michael has shown true leadership dealing with COVID-19, keeping us safe while continuing to give us our wonderful lifestyle by staying focused on our mission of "EXCELLENCE IS OUR STANDARD," and pushing for constant and never ending improvement in everything we do even in the hardest of times. He has proven that he had the vision and strength to lead us to the top of the top. For those of us who have worked alongside him over the years, we are no longer surprised by the results he achieves on our behalf.

Do to COVID many of the Addison Reserve luxuries that we enjoyed were temporarily curtailed, however one of them has just returned. As of Wednesday, October 14th we will once again be cleaning shoes. Shoes can be dropped off and picked up on the designated racks located in the lobby outside the golf shop. You may access the lobby by entering the clubhouse through the golf shop. In addition, we ask that members only drop off 2 pairs of shoes at one time. This will allow us to properly take care of all the shoes in need of cleaning and polishing.
