PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Greetings Daves Avenue Families,

Thank you to all students, staff, and parent volunteers who helped to make last week a success with the Fun Run, Picture Day, and the Halloween Parade. Watching our Cool Cats shine in the parade and cheering on our 4th and 5th graders as they rocked the Thriller dance was priceless! A huge shoutout the Mrs. Brown, Ms. Mahoney, Mr. Ochoa, Mr. Ducker, Mr, McCullough, and Mr. White for leading the charge to spread joy!

The committee will meet every 2-3 months and discuss ways to improve student wellness with food and food exposure. Please join us for the first meeting of the 2021-22 school year on Tuesday, November 16 at 8:30 A.M. in the Fisher Professional Development Center. Please email the Director of Food Services, Mrs. Kerry Billner if you are interested.Thank you!

This week, all students in LGUSD are engaging in virtual Kindness assemblies. At Daves Avenue, we continue to remind students to be Peaceful, Aware, Wise, & Safe at school and in our community. When students are found showing their PAWS on campus, they earn character cards for a monthly drawing. Congratulations to the recipients of the November 2021 drawing!
As conferences will wrap up this week, I want to thank you for your continued partnership. Our community is PAWSitively amazing and I am grateful to be a part of it.

Kind regards,
Jenna Mittleman, Principal

SR2S OFFERS COMMUNITY CONTEST
The Mineta Transportation Institute of San Jose State University has launched a Elementary Poster Contest which allows students in Santa Clara County (grades 1-6) to demonstrate their knowledge of the year’s transportation theme:

Stroll and Roll Back to School

Through an artistic, visually compelling image, students can convey their knowledge of safely using active modes to get to and from school.

Six winners—three from grades 1-3 and three from grades 4-6—will earn a cash prize in the form of a gift card as well as having their posters displayed at the Mineta Transportation Institute Banquet at San José State University in June. All prizes must be claimed by the end of the academic school year in which the entries were made. Field trip prizes include bus costs and entry fees*.

We hope you will pass the information in the attached flyer along to your students and network of educators and parents so that they may add the contest to their fall curriculum. Additionally, please feel free to contact irma.garcia@sjsu.edu if you have any questions, including assistance with procuring art supplies for participation, bringing in a guest speaker, or would like more information on the contest.
