Greetings Daves Avenue Families,

Thank you for participating in your child’s conference last week. Identifying strengths, opportunities for growth, and planning for a successful remainder of the school year are indicators of a healthy partnership between home and school. Please feel free to always reach out to your child’s teacher if you have any questions.

Daves Avenue Service Project Update~250 pairs of shoes!

Our school community continues to help our planet and those in developing nations by donating gently used shoes. These shoes will be used as the primary mode of transportation for individuals in communities around the world. Cool Cat Student Council representatives and teacher liaisons, Mrs. Brown and Mr. Ducker, bundled shoes this week. Keep up the good work, Cool Cats!

Sunday, November 14 @ 2:00 P.M. Los Gatos Stands UNITED Against Hate Walk. Eighteen organizations in Los Gatos, with more added daily, have partnered together for this walk which will begin at Fisher Middle School and end at the Civic Center Lawn. All are invited to create posters and to discuss with classmates, neighbors, and coworkers why they are participating and how their participation is creating an inclusive and respectful community in Los Gatos. When we work together against discrimination and hurtful words, we can restore civil discourse and embrace the strength of our diversity. Posters and additional information can be found online at www.LosGatosCAA.gov/United and also at the Chamber of Commerce at 10 Station Way, Los Gatos. Spread the word, and plan to participate--rain or shine!

One Community LG, on behalf of the Daves Avenue Home & School Club and LGEF, thanks the families who have donated to our One Community LG Campaign for the 2021-2022 school year.

64% of Daves Avenue families have contributed to the One Community LG Campaign, funding school supplies, technology, STEAM programs and supplies, student enrichment, and community building events from the Daves Avenue Home & School Club and funding counselors as well as art, music, library and PE teachers at Daves Avenue through LGEF.

If you have not yet contributed, please consider contributing at any level as all contributions are welcomed and appreciated. Our goal is 100% parent participation. You can pledge now if you wish to defer your contribution to a later date, or choose a monthly payment plan. Also, many companies will match your contribution. SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL

SR2S Offers Community Contest

The Mineta Transportation Institute of San Jose State University has launched a Elementary Poster Contest which allows students in Santa Clara County (grades 1-6) to demonstrate their knowledge of the year’s transportation theme:

Stroll and Roll Back to School

Through an artistic, visually compelling image, students can convey their knowledge of safely using active modes to get to and from school.

Six winners—three from grades 1-3 and three from grades 4-6—will earn a cash prize in the form of a gift card as well as having their posters displayed at the Mineta Transportation Institute Banquet at San José State University in June. All prizes must be claimed by the end of the academic school year in which the entries were made. Field trip prizes include bus costs and entry fees*.

We hope you will pass the information in the attached flyer along to your students and network of educators and parents so that they may add the contest to their fall curriculum. Additionally, please feel free to contact irma.garcia@sjsu.edu if you have any questions, including assistance with procuring art supplies for participation, bringing in a guest speaker, or would like more information on the contest.
