Dearest Daves Avenue Families,

As we are greeted with the holiday season, I encourage you to reflect on the last eight months. While it’s human nature to think about all of the challenges that the pandemic has presented us with, I urge you to reflect on the silver linings as well. I am grateful for continued health, my family, and for being a part of the Daves Avenue community. Please take time to share with your child(ren) all that you are grateful for.

I am looking forward to the Principal Chat this Thursday, November 19th @ 2:30 P.M. where I will be discussing LGUSD’s Reopening Plans and I would be happy to answer any questions. If you are unable to attend this week, another Principal Chat has been scheduled on Tuesday, December 1st, at 5:00 P.M.

To help us leap into our holiday break, I am thrilled to announce that we are having a school-wide virtual Magic Show THIS Friday, November 20th at 12:00 P.M. All Cool Cats are invited to this magical event as we let the Abracadabras and the Alakazams commence! Thank you to our Daves Avenue Home & School Club for making this possible! Similar to the Halloween Monster Mash Dance Party, the school-wide Zoom link will be sent to all families this Friday by 11:15 A.M.
As school will be closed next week, I look forward to welcoming students back to virtual classrooms and/or pilot classrooms on Monday, November 30th. Please continue to do your part in limiting travel, wearing a mask, and maintaining physical distancing. Reopening schools in LGUSD is a community effort and the continued safety of our students, staff, and community members remains a priority. We are all a pivotal piece to this complex puzzle.

On behalf of the Daves Avenue Elementary School Staff, we wish you a safe, healthy & Happy Thanksgiving.

Kind regards,
Jenna Mittleman

A global pandemic, wildfires, political elections, and school re-opening are just a
few hot topics in the headlines today. Hearing and engaging in the conversations
around these things can have us all feeling a little anxious. Are you prepared to
effectively talk with your family about these current news events?

Parenting Continuum is hosting a 90-minute workshop with Common Sense
Education and Project Cornerstone on tips and techniques to prepare our children
for tomorrow's headlines. You will leave this highly interactive session with:

- Strategies for better communication with your family using the research-based
Developmental Assets framework to help children and teens gain skills needed to
make good choices, take responsibility and become independent and fulfilled

For more information on the Developmental Assets framework, go to:

- Tips and techniques for navigating potentially sensitive topics with elementary
and middle school children in a complex media environment

- Greater confidence as a parent or guardian to acquire healthy mind habits and
digital citizenship- how to use technology in a safe, responsible and effective way

relationships & dynamics, and help create a calm and supportive home
environment where children can become their best.

"Being on the Board for the last three years has been an incredible experience. Not only have I made wonderful friends, but I have had the opportunity to work with a dynamic and diverse team of parents, teachers, district staff, and our amazing principal. Being part of this outstanding team has truly been a highlight of my time here at Daves Avenue. I wholeheartedly recommend getting involved" - Lani Harr, Parliamentarian
The H&SC Board is looking for a new member ASAP to serve in the position of President-Elect. The President-Elect will be an invaluable member of the Board this year who will transition to H&SC President for the 2021-2022 school year, and then to Parliamentarian for the 2022-2023 school year. The ideal candidate will be a parent with children in the 3rd grade or younger, who wants to take on a leadership role at Daves Avenue supported by a great team! This opportunity is absolutely open to working parents.
Interested? Have more questions? Or know someone who may be a great candidate?
If you would like to join our Board, please email Vice-President, Emma Garner.
