PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Greetings Daves Avenue Families,

During this season of gratitude, I am grateful for our Cool Cat students, staff, and community. Together, we are thriving and our students are full of JOY!

November~Project Cornerstone

This month we are focusing on our power to become UPstanders who include and support every student at our school so that everyone belongs and feels safe.

Here are some of the ways to be an UPstander:

• Refuse to join in with bullying behaviors.

• Use positive peer influence to help friends “do the right thing.”

• Say or do something when someone needs help. (Just standing next to someone will make

him/her feel better!)

• Help all kids join the fun. Invite someone new to play!

• Help friends find positive things to do and say.

• Laughing and joking with friends is fun, but laughing at a friend can hurt.

• Help kids “save face” when they are in a tough spot. Help them get away and be safe.

• Always get an adult if there is violence or a weapon!

Upcoming Project Based Learning Adventure

The 2nd and 5th grade teams are about to embark on a very exciting Project Based Learning adventure: The Daves Avenue Olympics. Throughout the project, students will explore the traditions of the Olympics, learn about good sportsmanship, and the characteristics of hard work and perseverance. What’s more: We need your help! We are calling on our esteemed community members who have expertise in athletics and sportsmanship. If you are interested in sharing your experiences with students as part of this project, please contact either Ethan Ducker, Ian White, Jason McCullough, or Meghan Clark.

Please remember that there is no school next week and I look forward to seeing all students back on campus on Monday, November 29. On behalf of the Cool Cat Staff, we wish you and your loved ones a safe and peaceful Thanksgiving Break. In the words of Maya Angelou, “Be present in all things, and thankful for all things.”

COOL CAT SPIRIT DAYS REMAINING!

Nov 18th - Change your Name Day!

Change your name to your dream name or swap names with your friends. Make a name tag for yourself so people call you by the "correct" name.

Nov. 19th - Cozy Day!

Come to school in your cozy clothes; PJ's, Bathrobe, etc.! Bring a stuff animal if you'd like and learn while being cozy! Remember to wear regular shoes (no slippers).

SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL

Third Shannon Pedestrian & Bikeway Community Meeting

On October 19, 2021, the Town Council approved Design Concept 3 (buffered bike lanes) without the green bollards for the Shannon Road Pedestrian and Bikeway Improvement Project. Design Concept 3 can be viewed on the Town’s project website: https://www.losgatosca.gov/2687/Shannon-Pedestrian-and-Bikeway-Improveme

Before proceeding with the final design, there are few adjustments that can be made to the current design concept. Please join the Third Shannon Road Community Meeting scheduled for November 17 at 6:00 p.m. via Zoom to discuss the final design adjustments.

Highway 17 Bicycle & Pedestrian Overcrossing Project Community Meeting

SR2S Offers Community Contest

The Mineta Transportation Institute of San Jose State University has launched a Elementary Poster Contest which allows students in Santa Clara County (grades 1-6) to demonstrate their knowledge of the year’s transportation theme:

Stroll and Roll Back to School

Through an artistic, visually compelling image, students can convey their knowledge of safely using active modes to get to and from school.

Six winners—three from grades 1-3 and three from grades 4-6—will earn a cash prize in the form of a gift card as well as having their posters displayed at the Mineta Transportation Institute Banquet at San José State University in June. All prizes must be claimed by the end of the academic school year in which the entries were made. Field trip prizes include bus costs and entry fees*.

We hope you will pass the information in the attached flyer along to your students and network of educators and parents so that they may add the contest to their fall curriculum.
