UPDATE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
Dear Parents,

We are off to a great start of a new school year here in LGUSD! From Kindergarten gingerbread hunts to science lab rotations in 8th grade, students and teachers are back at their best.

This year, we have the opportunity to undertake comprehensive re-visioning and strategic planning. The transparent process is designed to gather unprecedented feedback from the education community and will result in a vision of where we want to be by the year 2025. In this brief four minute video , I explain the process and how you can get involved and provide input.

I hope all has gone well for you and your families during the first week of school!

Yours in education,
Superintendent

More information can be found on the district website HERE .

Parent Volunteers Needed!

Annual Student Hearing Screenings are scheduled for Thursday, September 12th from 8am-12pm, and we are looking for some volunteers .

It’s an easy job and a huge help to Daves! No experience is needed, a licensed audiology team will be conducting the screenings. The District Nurse is looking for four parents to help walk the students to and from the hearing screening van and double check student lists.

If you are interested in helping please  CLICK HERE .
We've Got Field Trips Covered!
Hopefully you heard last week at Back-to-School Night that the Home & School Club is funding field trips for all students, including transportation . Not only do we have your child covered for field trips, we also wanted to increase safety and decrease the amount of coordination needed. Continuing services and support like this is not possible without strong parental support. Please support us and donate DOLLARS for DAVES today. All donations directly go to our school.
CORPORATE MATCHING
Have you made your donation? Please consider checking in with your employer’s Human Resource representative today. You may be able to double or possibly triple your donation!

For further assistance or questions, please e-mail the Corporate Matching Chair

JOIN THE DAVES AVENUE GREEN TEAM!
Is Your 3rd-5th Grader Interested in the Environment?

Beginning September 10th , the student Green Team meets Tuesdays in the Daves Avenue Garden of Wisdom immediately after school until 3:30 pm. Students get a t-shirt and build friendships while learning to become stewards of the environment. Activities include maintaining the native & sensory garden, conducting science experiments, activism and learning about eco issues in our immediate world, and doing “green” projects around the school. We have had outside speakers, we might get a worm bin, we are building things - it is great! This year we will focus on planting the seeds of fruits, vegetables and herbs, cultivating them, and enjoying the harvest. We will explore the different ways environmental factors impact the success of our garden .   Click here to learn more and join us!
