Dear Daves Avenue Families,
|
|
Today we celebrated 100 days of growth, learning, resiliency, and being kind. The Great Kindness Challenge is this week and all Cool Cats are exhibiting their personal best and contributing to a culture of kindness. Ms. Young and Room 13 states it best….today we celebrated 100 days of AWESOMENESS!
Important announcements this week include the following:
Health & Safety
Thank you for doing your best to participate in the district-wide weekly COVID-19 testing for your child’s grade level. Please make sure to stay informed with all updated procedures and protocols which can be found on the LGUSD COVID Information Webpage. When there is a positive Covid case on campus, the individual class will be sent a close-contact exposure notification letter. Any close-contact email supersedes a school-wide exposure notification.
Kids Heart Challenge
We have 28 students at Daves Avenue who have officially registered for the challenge and the token prizes will be distributed this week. We have already raised $2,237.96! Keep up the good work! Don’t forget…if we raise $4,500 for the American Heart Association, Mrs. Mittleman gets slimed!

Be Seen & Heard Assemblies~Parent Night on January 31
*Zoom Link will be shared on the day of the assembly*
Parents are invited to attend this special information meeting to preview the concepts of the Be Seen and Heard © 2.0 program prior to the schools holding the presentations. Our assembly program will be presented February 1 – 4 across the District. Victor Pacini – Author and creator of this program will be available for questions.
This program is designed to create an age-appropriate, safe and engaging environment where students will learn about the difference between safe and unsafe touch, and the importance of having trusted heroes. Please join us. If you cannot attend, you can watch this video overview.
We encourage all families to have their students participate in this important program. If you do not want your child to participate, an opt-out letter was sent home on 1/25/2022.
Ready to Learn
Parents, please encourage your children to eat a healthy breakfast before coming to school. There is a direct correlation to the students who visit the health office in the morning and their daily nutrition. Young bodies and minds need good nutrition to thrive. Also, please consider creating a checklist with your child(ren) of the items he/she needs to have ready for school on a daily basis. This includes a backpack, water bottle, jacket, and possibly a lunchbox. In recent weeks, we have noticed a significant increase in the number of parents/caregivers who deliver forgotten items for students to the front office during the instructional day. Unless the item is a necessity, I encourage you to consider allowing your child(ren) to navigate the day without the item. This is a small example of a valuable life lesson, an excellent dinnertime conversation starter, and a kind gesture to all Cool Cat Staff and students who do their best to maximize teaching and learning during the instructional day. Thank you:)
Wishing you a PAWSitively healthy week!
Kindly,
