PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Dear Daves Avenue Families,

In honor of Lunar New Year and Black History Month, I want to recognize this time of celebration, new beginnings, and the importance of our Cool Cat Family. We are learning how to be attentive, curious, and responsive to one another as we continually strive to create a school environment where every individual feels safe and respected. The Los Gatos Union School District Vision states: To achieve academic excellence, we believe the LGUSD Student Success Profile will prepare all children to thrive in a diverse and ever-changing world.

Student Wellness
The LGUSD Strategic Plan prioritizes Student Wellness and Community & Global Citizenship. This week, all students participated in Be Seen & Heard assemblies where age-appropriate sexual assault and abuse awareness and prevention curriculum were masterfully integrated. Several grade levels were asked to identify who their Trusted Heroes are in the event he/she needs to report an unsafe touch or interaction. Additionally, our staff continue to weave in our Social Emotional Learning (SEL) programs and Project Cornerstone monthly themes. At today’s Wednesday Wave Virtual Assembly, we introduced the character trait, HONESTY, and we learned how we can be responsible by not spreading gossip or rumors. Of course, we also had our monthly character card drawing as well! Congratulations to our February 2022 Paws Club!
Community & Global Citizenship
Cool Cats of all ages continue to participate in “Service Above Self” service-learning opportunities to support our global community. With the support of our Student Council and HSC Co-Vice President, Mrs. Nielsen, our school saved over 700 shoes from going to a landfill and they are being shared with communities where shoes are considered a primary mode of transportation. Way to go Cool Cats!
Kids Heart Challenge
We have 41 students at Daves Avenue who have officially registered for the challenge and the token prizes will be distributed this week. We have already raised $3,553.51! Keep up the good work! Don’t forget…if we raise $4,500 for the American Heart Association, I will get slimed! Josh G. from Room 10 suggested that I should not wear a shower cap during the event IF we reach our goal. :)
A few other simple reminders:

  • Please encourage your Cool Cat(s) to leave personal “treasures” at home. This includes stuffed animals, squishies, Pokemon cards, and other cherished items.
  • All Cool Cats were reminded that the Daves Avenue & Poppy Drive-Thrus are not playgrounds. Specifically, students were reminded to show expected behaviors before and after school in these areas during our Wednesday Wave Assembly. Keeping our Cool Cats safe is our priority and we appreciate your support.

Wishing you a PAWSitively healthy week!

Kindly,
Jenna Mittleman, Principal
