Dear Daves Avenue Families,
Today is Crossing Guard Appreciation Day and students from Room 8 and Room 9 helped to share our Cool Cat gratitude! Students had an opportunity to give our special crossing guards compliments and they absolutely felt the love! Please join our efforts to thank our crossing guards not just today, but each time you see them!

This is also National School Counselors week and our Cool Cat Counselor, Mrs. Laura Macfarlane is simply the best. Each month she visits every classroom to provide a Social Emotional Learning lesson. The focus this month is on relationship skills. Thank you Mrs. Macfarlane for helping our Cool Cats thrive just like those in Room 16!

Community & Global Citizenship
We have 51 students at Daves Avenue who have officially registered for the challenge and the token prizes continue to be distributed. We have already raised $5,474.69 and successfully exceeded our school goal of $4,500! Keep up the good work! Together, we are raising funds for an important cause and having some Cool Cat fun at the same time. I wonder what color slime will be dumped on my head???

Academic Excellence/Curriculum & Instruction Spotlight
In conjunction with the 2nd & 5th grade little friend/big mentor program, the Cool Cat 2nd & 5th grade teachers have devised a cross curricular Project Based Learning or “PBL” experience. Students are learning about traditions of the Olympics, good sportsmanship, and the characteristics of hard work and perseverance. A sincere THANK YOU to Superintendent Johnson (Former Professional Swimmer), Mr. Ronnie Ekulund (Former Professional Soccer Player) and Mr. Kevin Youkilis (Former Professional Baseball Player) for being guest speakers and sharing your stories with our students. Your real-life perspectives are helping to make the Daves Avenue Olympic PBL Project even more meaningful.
I hope to see you on Zoom this Friday at 9:00 A.M. for a Principal Chat/Home & School Club General Meeting.
Wishing you a PAWSitively healthy week!
Kindly,

The Home & School Club would really love to bring back our annual end-of-year Carnival and Talent Show this year, but we need your help! We are seeking a Chair (or grab a friend and Co-Chair) to lead a committee that will coordinate food, games, and entertainment. The Carnival will take place at the end of May. It is usually our last big event of the school year and the kids love it! If you would like more information or are interested in this fun opportunity, please contact H&SC Co-VP Melissa Barragan.
