PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Dear Daves Avenue Families,

Cool Cats have been busy this week! On Monday our 5th graders departed for Outdoor Science School where they engaged in hands-on learning and the science of ecology. Understanding the relationship between living things and their environment will hopefully yield a deeper concern and sense of responsibility for the environment. Thank you to all 5th grade students, families, and staff for your efforts and preparation. The beauty in nature, friendships, and memories are truly priceless.
Academic Excellence/Curriculum & Instruction
Our LGUSD Strategic Plan explicitly states how all students will learn in an environment that promotes student engagement and prepares students to be successful. Team 4th grade has partnered with The California Department of Fish and Wildlife and are participating in a California Aquarium Education Program or Trout in the Classroom. This is a community-based program which allows students to experience first hand the delicate balance needed for animals to survive in aquatic ecosystems. Each 4th grade class has an aquarium where students will observe, reflect, and journal about the development of fish. Yesterday, Mr. Takata from South Bay Fly Fisherman delivered 50 trout eggs to each classroom!
PAWS Club March 2022
During our Wednesday Wave assembly today, we discussed this month’s character trait of acceptance. It just takes just ONE to make a difference! Everyone counts! Please ask your child(ren) to tell you more about what we discussed today😉.
Parent/Teacher Conferences & Minimum Days
Please remember that all of next week we will be on a minimum day schedule due to conferences. Our partnership and desire to ensure your child’s ongoing growth and success is outlined in our district’s Strategic Plan Objective #1 on Student Wellness & Objective #4 on Academic Excellence. As a parent, you are your child’s first and most important teacher. Conferences are designed to provide an opportunity for parents and teachers to share information that will promote social/emotional development and academic achievement. Both parties bring their own unique perspectives and experiences to the collaboration. As parents, you are the experts on your child. You understand what motivates them: their strengths, challenges, dreams, and qualms. Teachers contribute important information about learning styles, age appropriate skills, developmental milestones, peer relationships, and an understanding of where your child is on their educational journey. Our healthy and collaborative partnership is the key to success for every Cool Cat.

Wishing you a PAWSitively healthy week!

Kindly,
Jenna Mittleman, Principal

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
The Home & School Club would really love to bring back our annual end-of-year Carnival and Talent Show this year, but we need your help! We are seeking a Chair (or grab a friend and Co-Chair) to lead a committee that will coordinate food, games, and entertainment. The Carnival will take place at the end of May. It is usually our last big event of the school year and the kids love it! If you would like more information or are interested in this fun opportunity, please contact H&SC Co-VP Melissa Barragan.
