PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Dearest Daves Avenue Families,

I would like to extend my ongoing gratitude for your continued support in helping to make your child’s virtual classroom a positive experience. Team LGUSD is whole-heartedly taking feedback about our possible return to in-person learning and instruction from all stakeholder groups. With certainty, I can say that returning to in-person learning is one of the most complex and passionate topics of conversation that I have had the opportunity to participate in during my educational career. As your site leader, I am asking you to join me in remaining solution-oriented and to be mindful of the conversations you have in the presence of your child(ren). The day-to-day stressors while navigating school, work, and other commitments is a tall-task for everyone. You are not alone! More information will be shared with community members in the coming days with updates about the possible return to in-person instruction and learning. In the meantime, take heart in knowing that Team LGUSD’s methodical approach supports the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and community members.

This week, all families received an email and corresponding survey titled “Long Term Distance Learning Enrollment. Please make sure to read the email thoroughly and complete the survey by September 24 if:
  • Your child is medically fragile
  • Your child would be put at risk by in person instruction
  • Your child is self-quarantining because of concerns of exposure to COVID-19

Please note that students will remain in their current class placement until Phase 1 in-person instruction begins in LGUSD. When in-person instruction begins, students who have registered for long-term distance learning will receive a new class placement. Students will remain in the long-term distance learning program for the remainder of the 2020-21 school year. If you have additional questions about long term distance learning, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

On behalf of the Daves Avenue Staff, we continue to be in awe of the personal effort and resiliency displayed by all Cool Cats! Please give your child(ren) a hug and a high-five!

Kind regards,
Principal, Daves Avenue Elementary School
H&SC PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Dear Daves Avenue Families,

The past few weeks with the wildfires has been tough on all. It’s incredible to see a somewhat blue sky return to Los Gatos. This year continues to test us, but we also continue to find silver linings and appreciate things that we once took for granted. My hope is that you can all spend a few extra minutes outside when safe. We all need it!

I want to thank all of you who attended our first Home & School Club meeting of the year on September 3rd. Despite all that’s going on around us, I was very pleased with the turnout. Our new virtual format allows more flexibility, especially for those who are working like myself! If you missed the first one, please join our next HSC Meeting on October 8th at 3:30pm

I also want to acknowledge our Daves staff for yet another seamless distribution of materials. We all appreciate what you are doing for our kids. Fingers crossed that next time we have great air quality and low heat!

If you haven’t already, please mark your calendar for our first Principal Chat on Tuesday, September 22 at 3:30pm. We will provide Zoom information for this meeting as we get closer to this date. This is a great opportunity to hear directly from Mrs. Mittleman about what’s happening with Daves, our district, and the possible reopening of on-campus learning.

Last but not least, we are planning some unique, virtual community events to have some fun together. More coming very soon!

Take care,

President

LOOKING TO GET INVOLVED?
The H&SC Board is looking for a new member ASAP to serve in the position of President-Elect. The President-Elect will be an invaluable member of the Board this year who will transition to H&SC President for the 2021-2022 school year, and then to Parliamentarian for the 2022-2023 school year. The ideal candidate will be a parent with children in the 3rd grade or younger, who wants to take on a leadership role at Daves Avenue supported by a great team! The role is absolutely open to working parents. Interested? Have more questions? Or know someone who may be a great candidate?
In addition, the Room Parent Coordinator position is now OPEN.
If any of the roles interests you, please email our Board Vice-President, Emma Garner.
