Dear Cool Cat Families,
With the roving PG&E Power outages throughout California, I want to assure you that safety is a priority for all students in LGUSD. This year, we are working with ICS4School’s CEO, Mr. Joe Viramontez, who is a retired Fire Captain from the Santa Clara Fire Department. With his extensive professional experience with ICS (Incident Command System), we are working collaboratively and proactively to make sure that all Cool Cats are kept safe in the case of an emergency. The purpose of drills are to train staff and students to respond quickly to a variety of emergencies. Parent volunteers who are on campus during a drill are required to follow emergency protocol and participate until the drill has ended. While we regularly conduct fire and earthquake drills, I will have classroom teachers notify parents before we conduct a lockdown with restricted movement drill or an intruder drill.
To further support your child, please discuss how drills help us know what to do in an emergency which will help all of us (at school and at home) feel more calm and in control when a situation does arise. Having general conversations about safety, such as wearing a bicycle helmet, a seatbelt in the car, going inside during a thunderstorm, or looking both ways before crossing a street is important. Empowering students to take part in ensuring their safety and well-being is a quite a life-lesson. In the event of an emergency, please know that we have a Student Release Protocol which will effectively and safely reunify students and families in case of an emergency. If you are interested in more information about emergency drills, please contact me.
Have a PAWSitively awesome week!
