PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Dear Cool Cat Families,

Back-to-School Night was a successful evening for all. Thank you for attending! It was fabulous to wander through classrooms and see families engaged with teachers. The Daves Avenue staff were well-prepared and provided families with information about the educational program, which includes a new English Language Arts Adoption, National Geographic. Bringing the world to our classrooms through high-quality, standards based curriculum will help build a strong foundation for our student’s future success.

As you know, ensuring the safety of all students remains a top priority. Thank you for adhering to the Daves Avenue AM Drop-off and PM Pick-up Procedures. Safe Routes to School and our Safety Committee have worked collectively over the last few years to create a clear and concise plan. Safety doesn’t happen by accident! A child’s connectedness to school begins with a smooth morning routine and a plan for afternoon pick-up. Thank you for talking with your children about your “plan”. When students know where to meet parents or caregivers after school, this enhances our “safety first” goal. Families play a huge role in ensuring that safety comes first! Please note that students may enter campus when there is staff supervision beginning at 8:00 A.M. Here are a few friendly reminders:
  • The parking lot on Poppy Lane is labeled for Staff parking only. There are some visitors parking stalls in the Daves parking lot for your convenience. Please consider walking or riding to school!
  • If your child “wheels” to campus (bike, scooter, etc.), they should enter and exit at the Poppy Gate. Parents, please help in keeping this area clear after school so students can exit in a safe and orderly fashion.
  • At dismissal, the playground is only open to students who attend Clubhouse or those students who are participating in after school programs sponsored by the Los Gatos/Saratoga Recreation Department or an approved club. Ensuring appropriate student supervision is paramount.
  • Please feel free to enjoy the school playgrounds and blacktop after 5:00 P.M. during the weekdays and anytime on the weekend!

With your support, we are confident that student safety will remain a priority.

In safety together,
Principal, Daves Avenue Elementary School

Parent Education Opportunities at Your School!
Your part in our kids' education never ends. The challenges change over time. One way to grow as parents is by hearing experts share their knowledge.

Parenting Continuum is a group of parents like yourself from the schools in our district that brings experts on parenting topics to our community. Speaker events are usually held in the evenings 4-6 times a year.

Every school has the opportunity of providing 1-2 parents to represent your school community. You know best what parenting challenge you are facing in your family - you are probably not alone with those!

What we did in the past:
Speaker events about topics like use of technology, communicating with your children, financial literacy, growth mindset, raising resilient children and much more. The wonderful side effect is, that parents meet other interested parents and connect. It takes a village to bring up a family!

What we are looking for:
Great ideas and suggestions! You can either bring your ideas to the Parenting Continuum representative at your school or you can become this person yourself.

What you can do:
It doesn't take much time.
