1. How long have you been a BAMA member?
Three years.
2. What do you like most about being a BAMA member?
I enjoy building relationships in the community where I live and work. I recently took part in a clay pigeon shoot to raise funds for veterans and look forward to contributing to more BAMA-led events.
3. Tell us about United Scrap Metal?
USM is not only one of the largest providers of recycling solutions in the country but also one of the fastest-growing, privately-held woman-owned businesses. We operate with a commitment to integrity and a dedication to making a positive impact in the lives of others – it’s part of our company DNA. We focus on building authentic partnerships within our communities and are proud to support various non-profit organizations.
4. What do you consider your greatest accomplishment to date?
Building lifelong friendships. Over the course of my three decades in the industry, I am most proud of the friendships I have nurtured and developed. Equally as important to me is the commitment we have made to sustainability. Taking a cradle-to-grave approach to recycling can ensure the process is sustainable and minimizes its environmental impact.
5. What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?
Be yourself and be honest.
6. What is the most important skill you have developed in your career?
I pride myself on my superior communication abilities. By sharpening this skill, I can better understand the perspectives and needs of others, foster empathy, build trust, and create a more collaborative environment. I have worked hard at mastering how to be a better listener to round out my communication ability. In the wise words of Stephen R. Covey, “First seek to understand, then to be understood.”
7. What are your hobbies or interests?
I enjoy woodworking, boating, and fishing. I have been woodworking for most of my life, and I’ve built everything from cabinets to furniture to my most ambitious project to date – building our house. We bought a small single-story ranch house and, over time, have built a second and third story. My wife and son take part in helping build our home, which makes it even more rewarding to see the fruits of our labor. When I’m not building something, you can find me on the pontoon boat snook fishing. We’re fortunate to live by the water to enjoy unwinding and connecting as a family on our boat.
