Welcome to the July edition of THE BELLOS, your monthly e-newsletter connecting Montbello neighbors, businesses, and organizations. This edition features a variety of fun and educational activities happening in the neighborhood this summer as well as useful tips, resources, current job listings, updates on the FreshLo Hub, recent happenings, upcoming events and classes, and ways that you can get involved.

Summer Activities in the Neighborhood 


Summer offers endless possibilities for fun! Montbello has a variety of exciting activities and programs ranging from sports to arts, to outdoor fun for kids and teens of all ages. 


Montbello Public Library: Summer of Adventure 

Dive into books, embark on adventures, and win big with Denver Public Library's summer reading program taking place June 1-August 10: Summer of Adventure


Denver's Free Days: Art, Science, and Wildlife

Explore Denver's cultural and educational treasures with free admission days at the Denver Art Museum, Denver Zoo, Denver Museum of Nature & Science, and more! Check out Denverite’s article for upcoming Free Days.


Montbello Recreation Center: Summer Rec Kidz

Discover Summer Rec Kidz, a free day camp from June 10-August 9 for kids aged 8-12 at Montbello Recreation Center! Enjoy weekly themed activities like Outdoor Survivor Challenges and Medieval Times adventures, plus field trips and enriching local organization introductions.


Soccer Program at Montbello Central Park with VOLO

Join this free kids athletic program at Montbello Central Park with VOLO! Sessions are held every Tuesday from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM, running from July 16th to August 20th. CLICK HERE  to sign up.

Looking for the freshest local produce this summer? Look no further than the Green Valley Ranch Farmers Market! Held every Wednesday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM through August 28th at the Green Valley Ranch Recreation Center.

FreshLo Update

We're thrilled to announce that the leasing events for the FreshLo Residences had a fantastic turnout! If you missed it, don't worry—there are still opportunities to secure a unit. We currently have 1- and 2-bedroom apartments available at 60% and 70% AMI levels. Be sure to check the 2024 income limit table to see if you qualify.


What You Need to Apply:

  • Valid Photo ID: Required for all household members aged 18 and above. (Everyone must be present for signing.)
  • Application Fee: $26 money order or cashier’s check per person over the age of 18.
  • Unit Deposit: $400 money order or cashier’s check (refundable if the tenant does not move in).
  • Social Security Award Letter: If applicable.

Event Recap:

Dynamic Two-Day Grant Writing Workshop

On June 27th and 28th, Montbello Organizing Committee, Steps to Success, and  Youth Violence Prevention Center  hosted an engaging and informative two-day grant writing workshop. Held at the Environmental Learning for Kids Education Center, the event catered to both beginners and experienced grant writers looking to enhance their skills and connect with funders. Participants from all over the state gathered to learn, share, and grow.



Whether participants were new to grant writing or looking to refine their techniques, this workshop provided the perfect opportunity to develop skills, network with peers, and gain insights directly from funders. It was an inspiring event that equipped participants with the tools and knowledge needed to secure funding for their projects and initiatives.

Shaping Education Together: Denver Families for Public Schools Survey


Denver Families is committed to ensuring that community voices lead every decision impacting children. Denver Families seeks to gather feedback on education in Denver and prioritize issues for Denver Public Schools' (DPS) leadership agenda.


The survey aims to gauge community sentiment towards the school board and to develop a grassroots agenda. This agenda will reflect the community's priorities and ensure DPS focuses on issues that matter most to neighborhoods across Denver. Denver Families invites everyone to contribute their voice in shaping the future of education in the city.
