Looking forward at trends, the date of April 20 is quickly approaching. This date is known as the national stoner holiday or '420'. Last year at this time, due to covid, many of our schools and businesses were not open on this 'stoner holiday'. With many states now opening up, and loosening restrictions, we can expect additional 420 related events and even specials in some retail stores. For all those involved with prevention, education and enforcement, this is a good day to highlight and educate parents and community members.

Go-to Guide.
Twenty years ago, the answer to this question would only have been: from classmates at school, from friends at a party, or from a medicine cabinet. Fast forward to today and you’ll find that young people are also getting drugs online, perhaps now more than ever.
Study Says:
Vaping marijuana linked to lung injury in teens
According to a recent study, teens experience “wheezing or whistling” in the chest more often after vaping marijuana than after using e-cigarettes or regular cigarettes.

JUST ANNOUNCED!!
FREE VIRTUAL YOUTH TRACK
The Northwest Alcohol Conference Youth Track is excited to announce our virtual Youth Track opportunity this year that will include a TWO hour VIRTUAL presentation and an opportunity for up to 20 youth coalitions to earn a $300 mini  grant for the development and completion of a community project!
Please join us for the presentation: Coping, Connection, and Community presented by nationally acclaimed presenter Nigel Wrangham, in coordination with Billie-Jo Nickens, NoWAC Youth Track Coordinator. COVID-19 has provided the world with a variety of challenges that many of us were not prepared for. In turn, we have seen an increase in unhealthy coping strategies across all age groups, including substance use and abuse. During this time, it is even more important to remember to reach out and make positive connections with our family, friends, and our communities. This presentation will work to engage youth coalitions and their adult leaders from around the United States in conversations regarding ways to reach their peers and their communities during this time, ways to expand the reach of their voices and messages, and the importance of service and connection to their communities.
In the final portion of the virtual presentation, participants will learn about the stipend opportunity that is being offered to youth coalitions to develop and complete a community project in their own communities!
For more details on the guidelines of the mini grant, the dates for the virtual presentation, and to register for the virtual Youth Track: Coping, Connection, and Community, please visit our website at:  Youth Track Info | Northwest Alcohol Conference

"I just texted my boss and said, “I never feel more clueless about drugs than I do in the midst of a Tall Cop training when I’m furiously trying to scribble down as much as possible, lol.” "Thank you for doing all that you do!"

"When I was volunteered for this class I will be honest I wasn't thrilled about it. Based on the title of the course it sounded like training on how to identify someone under the influence. After almost 20 years with the (state) prison system that is something I learned early on through day to day contact with offenders.
However within about 15 to 20 minutes of the course I found myself looking for a note pad and pen to write things down. At least half of the things you covered I have never even heard of. Unfortunately I'm certain a fair amount of the offenders in (their state) prison system are very aware of it. I am very impressed with the information you provided. Outstanding job!"

"You did a “drug trends” presentation at ( a Texas school district) last year. In a conversation today with the parents of a teenager at my school who was recently failed a school drug test, I was able to give these parents needed information about current trends in the way that young people (and others) are ingesting THC. Much of the information I shared came from your talk last year. I just wanted to say thank you for this valuable service."

"Jermaine, I have attended one of your in person workshops and viewed several webinars this summer. I just found out that (a relative) was arrested for drug possession and they found a gun. The police found pot grinder, glass pipe, rolling paper, and a scale. They also found one pound of pot, more than 1.5 ounces of psychedelic mushrooms, 85 THC vape cartridges with the concentration between 80-90%and more than a half an ounce of THC wax.
Everything you have taught me she had in her car….
Having this hit so close to home, I wish every parent could here your high in plain site webinar.
I asked myself why her parents didn't realize but I guess its like you say you cant stop what you don't know. Thanks for doing what you do!"

"The webinar High in Plain Sight was amazing. I have learned a lot that I will be able to share with my co-workers. I am the Drug Court Officer...and the material presented has made me aware of the warning signs I need to look for when conducting personal contacts and home visits..."

"Awesome, like all of Tall Cops trainings are...Once you are in law enforcement and you go to the same conferences and trainings year after year. You just about see and have heard what they are saying. However with you it is always updated and fresh.
As I previously mentioned the class was awesome. This is the best set up that I have seen for a webinar training. There was a day of reminder, training starts in an hour, handouts and certificates a few minutes after training. I taken some webinar training last year and still haven’t received certificate or handouts yet. This is after phone calls and emails."
