A few times a year, Field Team 6 holds a Strategy Briefing to break our biggest news, announce our progress, and detail our game plan for the next election. But last night’s ROAD TO VICTORY Strategy Briefing was a milestone in the life of the organization. Here’s some of what we announced. (And stay tuned for the full recording next week!)
With our donors’ help, we were able to raise the money to compare the vast majority of our 15 million contact database with the most current voter rolls across the country. For the first time ever, this process gave us hard confirmations of 1) the number of voters we helped register, 2) the number of Democratic voters, and 3) the number of those Democratic voters who voted in the 2020 election.
We have, in the past, projected that we’ve helped register over 3 million voters. That projection still stands. It’s our best guess of the total we’ve helped register through all outreach methods, including ones we can never get hard confirmations for, like paid and free social media. And we’ve sent social media ads to literally millions of people (and reached millions more with our social storms).
But the numbers you're about to see are both smaller – and more exciting. Because these are hard confirmations. And because we value transparency more than any other voter registration organization, as we go forward, we will be using these hard confirmations as our principal metrics.
Now I’d like you to journey back in time with me, if you will. Do you remember 2017 and 2018, when registering over 6,000 Democrats and helping flip five Southern California districts in the midterms was the the biggest thrill of our lives? That’s what inspired us to start Field Team 6 a few weeks later… and by early 2020, we were so proud to have registered almost 30,000. For the 2020 election, we set our sights on a big, hairy, audacious goal: 100,000 voters. We had heated arguments before we settled on 100,000. It seemed like an absolutely insane number, but we decided it was not only a rallying cry… but that if we worked hard and scaled up and got lucky….maybe, just maybe, it was possible.
Then COVID hit.
There’s a Hemingway quote Biden likes to use: “We grow stronger at the broken places.” COVID broke everything. So we had to get stronger in every way. We got lucky enough to hire genius wunderkind Cory Alpert, fresh off the Mayor Pete campaign. With his help, we cracked the nut of digital voter outreach… and it wound up giving us a national wingspan and a data-driven muscularity we could never have achieved otherwise. Our donors gave us the power to build a unique database of eligible voters who were likely Democrats – and ten thousand volunteers showed up to do the most important work there is.
By the 2020 election, we did not help register 100,000 Democratic voters.
We helped register 785,000.
The vast majority of them in our swing states.
And do you want to know how many of them voted? 498,000.
Broken down by state, that wound up being six times Biden’s margin of victory in Arizona, five times Biden’s margin of victory in Georgia, and 89% of Biden’s margin of victory in Wisconsin… the three states that tipped the Electoral College.
Hang on a second, I’ve gotta stop crying. Whew. Okay, thanks. I’m good now.
We’ll soon have a full breakdown of what we did in 2021… But we can tell you that last year, we brought our total to 1.7 million confirmed Democratic voters, the vast majority in our swing states. Thank you forever to all our volunteers and donors – you made this happen!
Our goal for 2022? To help register another 1 million confirmed Democratic swing state voters… and to raise the $1.5 million, it will take to do that.

IT'S A GIF... IT'S A MEME... NO! IT'S A FANTASTIC NEW FT6 POSTCARD!
Our Postcard Program to reach unregistered likely Democrats and encouraging them to register to vote has been an unmitigated success already. In fact, our volunteers and partners recently wrote and sent our 566,509th postcard!
At our current pace, we're on track to blow past the one million mark way before the midterm registration deadlines.... and we're unveiling a fantastic new postcard to celebrate!
James McMullan, who along with Shepard Fairey, is one of the two fab artists who've so generously contributed their immense talent to the cause, had asked for ideas on a youth-centric postcard. Savvy FT6'er Courtney Hester, an expert in the ever-changing field of youth messaging, pitched the brilliant idea of BernieMittens. James applied his usual flair, and... voila! A new youth-centric progressive postcard star is born.
PRO TIP: use this postcard for our active postcarding campaign to young people in Pennsylvania!

NEW BADGER STATE MAPS!
The new maps have been adopted, confirming Wisconsin will be ground zero for saving our Senate majority, saving our House majority, and winning down-ballot in November. Hence: TRIPLE WORD SCORE!
To save the Senate majority, we must elect a Democrat to replace America’s worst senator, Russian mouthpiece and COVID misinformation aficionado Ron Johnson (R). (I know what you’re thinking: what about Ted Cruz? Ok fine, they’re tied.) When it comes to saving our House majority, we need to replace retiring Rep. Ron Kind (D) with another Democrat in WI-03, and we need to flip Trumpian Rep. Bryan Steil (R) out of WI-01. We also must re-elect Democratic Governor Tony Evers, so he can continue vetoing the flood of horrible legislation passed by the Republican-led legislature!
The good news is that any Democrat we register anywhere in the state can help win the Senate and governor’s race. It’s now been a staggering 9 weeks in a row with over 40 million impressions, 5 weeks in a row over 50 million impressions! Last week we generated over 57 million impressions, over 12k tweets, and 96k likes & retweets! You guys are truly amazing!
Let's keep the momentum going with our next awesome weekly social storms. We've got two this coming week: our regular Wednesday morning storm (Wednesday, March 16 at 11a PT) and a special Tuesday evening storm (Tuesday, March 15 at 6p PT) for those who can't make our daytime events. At both storms we'll jump onto the web to raise awareness for Field Team 6's efforts to #RegisterDemocrats and save the world. We’ll also be recruiting volunteers for our ongoing in-person voter drive trainings, phonebanks, textbanks and postcarding programs. These storms are making a difference and will help form the basis of a blue tsunami this fall.

This week the Train of Volunteer Appreciation is picking up a special passenger, Deb Verla (that's her with the blue sweatshirt tied around her waist), our Social Media Storm Captain and BYOP Textbanking Captain, and a member of the Field Team 6 Round Table, our volunteer steering committee.
Deb lives in Redondo Beach, CA with her husband, sister, and 10-year-old puppy Gremlin, and is an extremely proud mom of her daughter, an actor in New York.
She got her start in activism during college at the University of Michigan when she volunteered for several local elections. But it was the 2016 elections that really shocked and alarmed her. So she canvassed in Orange County, CA for the 2018 midterms, and eventually joined Indivisible Beach Cities.
"Our leader, Patti Crane, presented information about Field Team 6, voter registrations, and how close the 2016 election actually was, how it came down to 1 vote per precinct in Michigan. If we could have registered just ONE more person in each of those precincts! That’s when I knew I wanted to get involved registering new Democrat voters."
"One of the things I love about working with FT6 is that they encourage me to suggest and try different things. No idea is too crazy, and they always give me all the support I could need. Another thing I love about working with FT6 is the people – the collaboration is everything, I feel supported and appreciated every day."
Her favorite project has been leading the Social Media Storm team. "We started with a small group of dedicated stormers and have built it into a powerful band of noisemakers, tweeting out our messages of hope and activism weekly."
One of her driving passions is trying to stop bullying and hate. "The only way to stop something is to replace it with something else. Kindness rubs off on people and builds like ripples in a pond, and then manifests itself in ways you don’t even expect. If we’re ever going to get the country back together, people need to talk with each other and be kind again."
Deb, we salute your eternal optimism, your tirelessness, your passion for training our members, and your dedication to the cause. We look forward to turning those ripples of kindness into waves of change in 2022 and beyond!

One of Field Team 6's coolest tools is our Voter Drive in a Box – the digital version of everything you need to hold your own voter drive in a swing state: training videos, manuals, cheat sheets, etc.
Now we're introducing the physical version. Our Voter Drive in a Box Box is not just metaphorical... it’s an actual box filled with everything a first-time drive leader needs to host their own voter drive: clipboards, pens, forms, stickers, and more – for up to 8 volunteers!
To achieve our goal of mailing one of these state-specific goodie boxes—for free!—to every volunteer who signs up to lead their first voter drive, we're looking for people to Adopt-a-Box. It'll cost us about $60 to buy, stock and ship each box, but we think the dividends it will pay in the voter registration ground game will be priceless. Won't you adopt a box today?
