Hays CISD/Private Schools
Head Back to Class
The first day of school for Hays CISD is Thursday, August 15, 2019. Some private schools, including Santa Cruz Catholic School, start on Monday, August 12, 2019. Please prepare for increased traffic around Buda area schools and watch out for construction near Buda Elementary School, Tom Green Elementary, and Elm Grove Elementary.

Proposed Fiscal Year
2019-2020 Budget Hearings
The Buda City Council received the proposed budget presentation at its August 6 Council Meeting and has set public hearings for the proposed Fiscal Year 2019-2020 Budget.

Old Goforth Improvement Project Update
We’re nearing the end of Old Goforth Road improvement project! Initial paving will occur this Friday and Saturday (August 9-10, 2019) to permit one-way only traffic from North to South (from the intersection of FM 2001 and CR 119 south to the intersection of CR 119 and CR 133). Flagmen will control the East – West crossing traffic at Calomel – Tom Green School Road – this is the only East – West crossing point until the project is complete. Flagmen will be used when needed. Temporary stop signs will be up.

The GREAT NEWS is that the project will likely complete ahead of the contracted finish date (October 22, 2019)! Please observe traffic control signage and be aware of the Smith Construction contractors on the ground and operating equipment to ensure their safety! As we continue to “Meet the Needs of the Citizens,” we will strive for excellence in every way!

Hays County Burn Ban
A BURN BAN IS IN EFFECT for Hays County. No outdoor burning is allowed. This includes burn barrels with or without lids.

Food grills with lids are allowed--please make sure you have a water source nearby, and that the fire is completely out before leaving it unattended.

New Buda Public Library
Opened One Year Ago This Week
One year ago this week on August 6, 2018 the new library opened its doors! Throughout our first year, we welcomed 120,000 visitors, offered 601 programs with 20,044 participants, created 3,323 new library accounts, and checked out nearly 230,000 library items! We can't see what this next year at the library holds!
Johnson High School Ribbon Cutting
All we can say is wow! The new Moe & Gene Johnson High School is beautiful. Thank you Hays CISD for inviting us to the ribbon cutting. What a wonderful new campus for our young people. It took over 50 years to get a high school in Buda, but now it's here! The building is 413,500 square feet with a 2,250 student capacity. The first students begin on August 15 and the first graduating class will be in 2022.

The Area Agency on Aging of the Capital Area and Age of Central Texas have teamed up for the 18th Annual 'Striking a Balance' Caregiver Conference. Come discover local caregiver resources, learn new skills, and connect with other caregivers & local experts on aging!
