"Your life has purpose. Your story is important.
Your dreams matter.
You were born to make an impact."

Message from Dr. Fractor and Mrs. Velikorodnyy:

We are off to a wonderful start to the school year! During our first week, our Bridgeport Dolphins met their teachers, reconnected with old friends, and collaborated with new ones. We learned what it means to Be Your BEST at Bridgeport.  During our Beginning of the Year student assemblies we focused on having a Growth Mindset about the learning process, embracing our mistakes and failed attempts, and relishing in challenges. Below is the presentation we gave to our students:

Our students were also welcomed by the Grades of Green crew during our kick-off assembly! They reminded us the importance of reducing, reusing, and recycling and the impact our students can have on our school, community, and the environment. Last year Bridgeport won 2nd place in the Trash Free Lunch Challenge. This year our goal is to make it to 1st! We will focus on developing a sustainable in-class recycling program and this project will be spearheaded by our Grades of Green student leadership team.

On Monday, August 21, 2017, all of North America will be able to experience an eclipse of the sun. According to NASA,  "anyone within the path of totality can see one of nature's most awe-inspiring sights - a total solar eclipse. Observers outside this path will still see a partial solar eclipse where the moon covers part of the sun's disk."

The timing of this phenomena will take place during the school day. Bridgeport students will participate by safely observing this event with their teacher and peers. Our school will be providing NASA-approved safety eclipse glasses, generously purchased by our PTA. Safety is our number one priority and we encourage all students and individuals involved to follow the safety rules regarding the viewing of the Solar Eclipse that will be reviewed with each class.   Please help us by reminding your child(ren) that it is not safe to look directly at the sun at any time, including during a solar eclipse. We will be practicing how to correctly and safely experience this event during grade level assemblies that will inform, engage, and enlighten our students about the Solar Eclipse and the amazing event. Thank you for your continued support. If you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us at cfractor@saugususd.org and mvelikorodnyy@saugususd.org.

Important Information

We are looking to honor our Bridgeport family heroes on 9/11. If you are in  Law Enforcement, a Fire Fighter, a First Responder, or in the Military, we invite you to be honored at our 9/11 morning assembly. Please complete the form here to let us know you are coming.

We are also asking any students in Girl Scouts/Boy Scouts to dress in uniform and participate in our program.

All students will be asked to show their patriotism by wearing red, white, and/or blue.

Safety first! When using our valet line, please remember to have your child exit from the passenger side only.  Please also remain in your vehicle to ensure the safety of our students and families who walk to and from school.

Attending school has a huge impact on student success. 21st century learning is  solidified  through meaningful interaction and dialogue with peers and educators. When students are absent, they miss out on these critical thinking opportunities that cannot be replicated through make-up work at home.
Some Attendance Tips to Promote Student Learning:
  • Make sure your students keep a regular bedtime and establish a morning routine so they are rested and alert when they get to school.
  • Turn off all electronics including TVs, phones and tablets at bedtime.
  • Make sure clothes and backpacks are ready the night before.
  • Check with our school nurse or office staff if you are not sure about when to keep your child at home due to illness.
  • Avoid scheduling vacations or doctor's appointments when school is in session.
  • Talk to teachers and counselors for advice if your student feels anxious about going to school.
  • Develop back-up plans for getting to school if something comes up. Call on a family member, neighbor, or another parent to take your student to school.
Please let us know how we can best support you and your student so that they can show up for school on time every day.
