ROSLYN SCHOOL DISTRICT CELEBRATES
AUTISM AWARENESS MONTH
Roslyn Schools hosted districtwide activities centered around Autism Awareness Month this past April. The theme was “Celebrate What Makes You Unique.”

Heights held an Autism Acceptance Walk on Friday, April 21, 2023 and chose Different: A Great Way to Be as their book of the month. Harbor Hill students enjoyed read alouds and watched videos focused on acceptance. Students at East Hills created a display to highlight 12 inspirational people who have overcome obstacles. Roslyn Middle School hosted a slideshow in the main lobby, and participated in Wear Gold Day and Spirit Week. Daily announcements were broadcast, highlighting societal contributions from individuals with autism. The Autism Awareness Club at Roslyn High School hosted a fundraiser to sell t-shirts and bracelets. They also decorated the cafeteria windows.
HEIGHTS SCHOOL
Singer-songwriter Brady Rymer performed at Heights School on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, much to the delight of all the children!
EAST HILLS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
The Muslim family of a second grade student at East Hills visited the
school to teach the children about Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr.
In recognition of World Down Syndrome Day, East Hills students and staff took part in the “Lots of Socks” campaign by wearing their craziest, silliest, most mismatched socks. The idea surrounding the campaign is that when people ask about the socks, wearers can start a conversation to raise awareness of Down Syndrome.
HARBOR HILL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Fifth graders at Harbor Hill Elementary School created a composite volume zoo during a recent STEM lesson. Students chose an animal to design, selected boxes to scale their animal, and measured each body part to find the total composite volume.
The fifth grade student council at Harbor Hill Elementary School hosted a Book Drive to coincide with the school’s Spring Book Fair during the last week of March. In just five days, they collected a total of 1,579 books for all ages!
ROSLYN MIDDLE SCHOOL
Roslyn Middle School hosted their third annual door decorating contest! Congratulations to all the teachers and students who placed as winners in the competition!

Roslyn Middle School students in Ms. D'Ambrosio's class helped color in all the feathers for their bulletin board—created for Autism Awareness month. Students then enjoyed taking angel wings pictures!
The Athletes Helping Athletes (AHA) club, led by Mrs. Mastriano, met with 7th grade students to discuss positive life choices after they completed the Drugs and Alcohol curriculum in health class. The AHA students addressed the real challenges in relation to drugs and alcohol while highlighting successful refusal strategies. 
ROSLYN HIGH SCHOOL
Seven Roslyn High School students won awards at the 2023 New York State Science and Engineering Fair (NYSSEF)—held at the New York Hall of Science on March 27, 2023. 
The Roslyn High School Music Department hosted their Spring Concert Series on Wednesday, April 26th and Thursday, April 27th. Click on the dates below to watch the performances.

The Roslyn High School Winterguard won the Scholastic A Class Gold Medal at the Mid-Atlantic Indoor Network Championship—held at the RWJ Barnabas Health Arena in Toms River, New Jersey, on April 23, 2023. Their production, titled, A Story to Tell, earned a score of 89.43 and was the 3rd highest in all classes of the competition.
 New Athletic Facility for Roslyn High School
Roslyn student athletes and their coaches are looking forward to the installation of a new, world-class track and field facility at Roslyn High School. Work is scheduled to begin Monday, May 22, 2023 and is slated for completion by the beginning of the next school year—weather permitting. The project will include demolition, site preparation, and new engineering and construction of the current track and field. While the entire area is being renovated it will be closed to the public. Community members can use the outdoor facility at Roslyn Middle School during the hours when school is not in session and no after-school events are scheduled. These guidelines will apply to the summer school program.
