First grade students at Heights had a blast participating in Field Day on Tuesday, May 23, 2023. They ran relays, hula-hooped, and played a parachute game. A big thank you to the Heights Physical Education Department for all the planning and hard work they put into the day!

Thomas Christina, CEO & Co-founder of GOAT USA Inc. visited East Hills and Harbor Hill elementary schools to talk to students about entrepreneurship and the t-shirt he designed for a Roslyn PFA fundraiser.

The students, faculty, and staff at East Hills Elementary School raised a whopping $12,411.60 for this year’s Red Nose Day—held Thursday, May 25, 2023. This is the largest amount they’ve raised to date! Various fundraising efforts were held throughout the month of May at East Hills, most notably, Stuck for a Buck —where Principal Sherry Ma was taped to the wall for dollar donations. The school also hosted a pretzel sale and a paint night. Many children fundraised on their own—selling bracelets, hosting bake sales, and setting up snack stands.

Harbor Hill Elementary School third graders put on a recorder concert performance in the gym on Tuesday, May 9, 2023.

Fourth grade students at Harbor Hill Elementary School learned a variety of clever circus tricks like stilt walking, plate-spinning, juggling, and hula-hooping during a week-long workshop focused on coordination, timing, and team building. On Friday, May 19, 2023, they put on two circus shows— an afternoon performance for the third grade, and an evening show for their families.

On Thursday May 25, 2023, Harbor Hill Elementary School held a small ceremony inside the gym for their Kids Heart Challenge participants. Physical education teacher Vera Trenchfield and Athletics Director Michael Brostowski handed out certificates and prizes. Students Mason Lalin and Scarlett Lalin were the top fundraisers, bringing in a combined $3456.17!

The Roslyn Middle School Art Show went on display May 16, 2023 in The Gallery at the Bryant Library. An opening reception was held on May 17th, which included light refreshments and live performances by the RMS String Ensemble. The exhibit can be seen through June 11, 2023.

The Roslyn Middle School String Ensemble earned a ranking of Gold at the NYSSMA Majors—held May 22, 2023 at Hofstra University. The NYSSMA Majors is a program that adjudicates performance groups on their abilities. To earn their Gold score, middle school students performed three pieces in front of two esteemed adjudicators, including: "Gauntlet," "Cliffs of Moher," and "North Country Legend."

Members of the Roslyn High School Diversity Club participated in a college tour of Columbia University and City College. One tour was self-guided (Columbia University), and the other tour was conducted through the City College Office of Admissions.

Roslyn High School’s Shayla Zheng won 2nd Place in the Financial Consulting category at DECA's International Career Development Conference in Orlando, Florida—held April 25, 2023. Faculty advisor Sallykaye Kaufman said, “Shayla worked hard all year developing her winning presentation and practiced between class periods, after school, and on weekends, which is what it takes to win at DECA’s ICDC!”

Roslyn High School Student Maxx Yung is one of the winners of the 2023 American Academy of Neurology Scientific Research Awards. The award is designed to encourage high school students to explore the world of the brain and nervous system through research, identify and reward those students whose scientific skill and talent indicate potential for scientific contributions in the field of neuroscience.

Roslyn High School hosted their second annual Reconnect Day on May 18, 2023. The Art Club did a presentation on Neurographic Art therapy and provided students with amazing coloring packets. The Mental Health Awareness Club gave a presentation about mental wellness and hosted a bingo activity. The Diversity Club and Muslim Discussion group gave presentations on Cultural Competence, and the SUSS Team wrapped up the program by presenting on school safety.

The Roslyn High School Medical Explorers’ Club hosted its Annual Color Run on Friday, May 12, 2023. Each year, the event supports awareness and research of various diseases. The Color Run exemplifies the cooperation, dedication, and benevolence of the Roslyn High School community.

Roslyn High School senior and Royal Crown Player Tyler Turetsky was named a semi-finalist in the 2023 Roger Rees Awards for Excellence in Student Performance. The young actor was nominated by RHS directors Christina Cinnamo and Jill Fedun for his work in the role of Crutchie in the Royal Crown Players spring production of Newsies.
Tyler was also one of only 56 students chosen throughout New York State to move forward in the Roger Rees Awards Showcase—held live on Sunday, May 21st at the Professional Performing Arts School in New York City—where he was honored with the Emerging Artist Award—placing in the top four of all finalists!

A small ceremony was held on the RHS field to dedicate a bench in memory of student Evan Friedlander who passed away at the end of the 21-22 school year. The idea for the bench was inspired by his friends Alex Sunshine and Brent Weissman.
"Evan was an inspiration and the type of player we want future Bulldogs to emulate," said Jesse Sorensen, physical education teacher and coach of varsity volleyball/lacrosse. "Evan's family, friends and teammates will forever have a hole in our hearts left by his passing, but we will try to honor him by living our lives with some of the passion and tenacity he lived his with."

Roslyn School District granted tenure to thirty-two teachers and administrators during a late afternoon ceremony at the Roslyn High School library on Thursday, May 18, 2023. Superintendent Allison Brown and Board of Education President Meryl Waxman Ben-Levy hosted the intimate gathering, which included a line of administrators on hand to shake hands and congratulate the newly tenured staff. Families and friends of the honorees were also in attendance and enjoyed some light refreshments at the conclusion of the event.
