Matthew 28:18-20 (NRSV)
“And Jesus came and said to them, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.’”
We all recognize these final verses in the book of Matthew as the great commission. These final verses have laid out the commissioning of the disciples and all followers of Christ. As Jesus shared these parting words with the disciples, they heard his teachings, saw God's work, and received his blessing to go into the world. The disciples were commissioned with the authority to be the ones that make new disciples. The last line of this passage has always stood out to me. Jesus says, "and remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age." These words of Jesus make me think of my grandmother.
