The DC Chamber of Commerce salutes, honors and applauds its retail members in the fight against COVID-19
 
DC Chamber member organizations including their employees are providing critical services to combat the coronavirus pandemic. Doctors, nurses, technicians, drivers, custodians, receptionists, cashiers, stockers, delivery workers etc. are providing these critical services and placing themselves in harm’s way everyday. The DC Chamber of Commerce salutes, honors and applauds its member organizations and their employees for service in protecting, caring for and healing mankind.

Meet some of our retail members who have modified operations to provide social distancing and other safety measures during this coronavirus pandemic.
For over 75 years, Giant Food has served the greater DMV with a single goal: to deliver an unmatched selection, quality, and value. In 1936, N.M. Cohen and Samuel Lehrman founded Giant Food Inc. and opened Washington, DC’s first supermarket. Since then, Giant continued to grow and innovate, pioneering computer-assisted checkout scanning and opening over 150 stores throughout Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia. In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, Giant Food has offers special hours for at-risk citizens, has adopted social distancing methods and provides free coffee/breakfast for first responders.
Safeway  recognizes the needs of senior citizens, and vulnerable neighbors during this coronavirus health crisis. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, Safeway opens its doors between 7 AM and 9 AM for those at-risk shoppers (senior citizens, pregnant women, or those with vulnerable immune systems) during the coronavirus pandemic. Thank you, Safeway, for your commitment to the community and residents during this time of extreme need.
Walgreens is taking a number of steps in its stores and pharmacies across the U.S., as well as introducing additional services to help support customers and patients during this global coronavirus health crisis. This includes waiving delivery fees for all eligible prescriptions and collaborating with health plan partners, physicians and state officials to ensure that patients have access to the medications they need through services like 90-Day Refills and early refill authorizations. Customers can also take advantage of services such as Pharmacy Chat, a secure online platform available 24/7 online and through the Walgreens App, as well as the pharmacy drive-thru for customers looking for alternative ways to access their medications.

CVS continues to actively monitor the current international and domestic environment for coronavirus-related risks and prepare accordingly. Specifically, these teams are:
  • Collaborating with partners across the Enterprise to help bolster business unit preparation and continuity, with a focus on meeting the needs of the consumers and other customers CVS serves, if and when warranted.
  • Developing travel, work from home, and other HR-related guidance to help employees stay safe and healthy.
  • Working with external public health organizations and other stakeholders, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), to boost awareness of CVS Health’s emergency preparedness efforts and capabilities.

On March 9, 2020, CVS announced additional COVID-19 resources to increase patient access to medications. CVS Pharmacy will waive charges for home delivery of prescription medications, which will help patients avoid visiting their local CVS Pharmacy for refills or new prescriptions. CVS Caremark is working with all PBM clients to waive early refill limits on 30-day prescription maintenance medications.
Compass Coffee is an American coffee roaster and cafe chain based in Washington, D.C. Known for delivering the nation’s capital “Real Good Coffee”, Compass is now headed in a different direction, trading in coffee beans for sanitizer. During these unprecedented times, the well-known roasters have temporarily expanded their services to develop masks and hand sanitizer for residents. The high-demand for such items has made it difficult for DC residents to obtain these essential resources. A proud member of the DC Chamber, as well as the 2017 Community Impact Awardee , we applaud Compass Coffee for their continued service to the greater metropolitan community.
