The Rev. Thomas Meyers Van Culin

The Reverend Thomas Meyers Van Culin (age 80) died of respiratory complications and heart failure this past Sunday, November 4, 2018.

Tom was ordained to the Diaconate on September 1, 1991, and to the Priesthood on March 15, 1992, by the Rt. Rev. Donald P. Hart. Following ministry as a prison chaplain, Tom served as the as the Vicar of St. Matthew's Church, Waimanalo, from 1993 to 2007, and Vicar of St. Luke's Church, Honolulu, from 2007 to 2010. Tom was raised at the Cathedral of St. Andrew. Before leaving for the Church Divinity School of the Pacific in 1986 to prepare for ordination, he was a lay leader of his Parish (St. Christopher's Church, Kailua), the Diocese (including service on the Standing Committee), and the Episcopal Church (including service on the Executive Council). Tom was resident at the Lunalilo Home at the time of his death. He is survived by his wife, Tina; his children, Tori and Drew (and their families); and his hanai son, Sean.
A Requiem Eucharist will be celebrated in thanksgiving for Tom's life this coming Saturday, November 10, 2018, at 10:00 AM, in the Cathedral of St. Andrew, Honolulu.
ALMIGHTY AND ETERNAL GOD, to whom there is never any prayer made without hope of mercy, be merciful to the soul of your faithful servant, Tom, being departed from this world in the confession of your Holy Name that he and all the departed may be welcomed into the company of thy saints, through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Rest eternal grant him, O Lord, and let light perpetual shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen.

The annual Kapa`a Interfaith Association's (KIA) Thanksgiving Luncheon is T hursday, November 22 nd , 11:00AM - 1:00PM. The day begins with an Interfaith Thanksgiving Service at 10:00AM in the Church.

A big Mahalo to all of you that signed up last Sunday or during this week to help with the Thanksgiving Luncheon. It is a wonderful gift to the community and for the community. We could still use drivers to take meals to those that are shut ins as well as a couple more people to help clean up.

We also need juice boxes and fruit and flowers to decorate the gym. Please start talking to neighbors and friends that have trees full of fruit and flower gardens. It takes all of us to make this happen and we thank you so much for your willingness to be a part.

* Available for elderly and shut-ins. Requests due by November 12th.*

Please feel free to call Mary Margaret Smith at 821-2878 or Sarah Rogers at 822-3473 with any questions or answers!  If it is more convenient, please email the co-chairs (Mary Margaret Smith and Sarah Rogers).

Elijah: Tight With God
Elijah is fleeing from King Ahab’s wife Jezebel because he has just had Ahab’s prophets of Baal killed, and she is furious. Very afraid, Elijah goes into the wilderness and pleads to God for his life to end. But an angel comes to care for him, and he goes into a cave on Mount Horeb (also known as Mount Sinai).
God then tells Elijah to stand on the mountain and wait for the Lord to pass by. There comes a fierce wind, an earthquake, and a fire, but the Lord was not in any of these powerful things. Then comes “a sound of sheer silence,” and Elijah knows that he is facing God. God speaks to Elijah out of this silence.
When Elijah comes down from the mountain, he meets Elisha, who begs to follow him. Elisha then becomes Elijah’s follower, servant and friend (1 Kings 19:21).

One `Ohana Team Implementing The 2017 Strategic Design Plan
One 'Ohana Team,

Our next Saturday work dates will be November 24 th and December 15 th . Please mark your calendars.

Bishop Bob, during his visit to All Saints’ last Sunday, praised the One `Ohana Habitat for Humanity Team for their work (it was recently highlighted at Diocesan Convention as well). He said he wants the other Kaia`i Episcopal churches to follow All Saints’ lead. Kudos for your dedication as we work to complete these 17 Habitat homes!
