ather in heaven, who at the baptism of Jesus in the River Jordan proclaimed him your beloved Son and anointed him with the Holy Spirit: Grant that all who are baptized into his Name may keep the covenant they have made, and boldly confess him as Lord and Savior; who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, in glory everlasting.

Ministry Meetings
Flower Guild Meeting
Wednesday, January 15 at 12:30 p.m.
Flowers enhance the altar and bring visual beauty to our worship. The Flower Guild works in teams of two arranging flowers for the main altar and the chapel altar and creating arrangements for special events. The Guild will meet after the noon Eucharist for a light lunch and to discuss how things are done and what can be done to improve. All Flower Guild members and anyone who would like to learn more about this beautiful ministry are invited to attend.
Altar Guild Meeting
Wednesday, January 22 at 12:30 p.m.
We are looking for new Altar Guild members who can join with seasoned volunteers in learning about this loving work for our worship. The duty of the Altar Guild is to prepare all things necessary for the conduct and celebration of public worship at Christ Church Cathedral. The preparations are done reverently and prayerfully so that all services may proceed in order and beauty to the glory of God. Members of the Altar Guild should be ever mindful that this service is a high calling. This quiet, behind-the-scenes "holy house work" is a true gift to the entire congregation. We are meeting after the noon Eucharist for a light lunch and to have conversation about the ministry and how it should be organized going forward.
Morning Circle
Monday, January 13 at 10:30 a.m.
at the Home of Carolyn Stephenson, 161-B North McGregor Avenue
Morning Circle is a Women's Bible Study. The group is studying Psalms. For information on Morning Circle, please contact Carolyn Stephenson at 342-5637.
Contemplative Prayer
January 13 through February 17
"Practicing the Presence" facilitated by Fr. Marshall Craver! A prayer practice is just that: practice. In this six week contemplative prayer group, we will learn about and practice six different prayer forms that will assist us in becoming more aware of and trusting in Christ's presence in our day to day lives. Come and join us each Monday in the Chapel, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m., January 13 through February 17. Everyone is welcome! Regular attendance is encouraged but not required. Come as often as you can, and leave each Monday with a prayer form that you can take with you and practice throughout your day.
The Good Book Club: The Gospel of John
Start 2020 in the beginning-with the Good Book Club and the Gospel of John! Each day, from Epiphany on January 6 through Mardi Gras Day, February 25, we will read a passage from this compelling gospel, inspired by "the disciple whom Jesus loved." We'll encounter the favorite verse of football fans and inspirational sign makers with John 3:16, and we'll also hear stories only heard in John: Jesus turns water into wine at the wedding of Cana, encounters the woman at the well, and raises Lazarus from the dead. The spiritual Gospel of John uses beautiful poetry: Jesus as the bread of life and as the vine. And it's in John that we hear the great I AM statements.
Forward Movement and partner organizations across the Episcopal Church-and this year, the Anglican Church in Canada-have prepared an array of resources to help you on the journey. The first step is easy: Open your Bible and start reading. A Journey with John books are available on the Ministry Table for $10. To sign up for Good Book Club resources go to:

Concert Series
A Mass for Mobile: Joyful Spectacular
Sunday, January 26 at 4:00 p.m.
This concert is a celebration of the music that makes our city spectacular. From jazz music, African music, and gospel music, to classical; listeners will hear the diverse sounds of Mobile, Alabama. This program is a collaborative effort with Mobile's Singing Children and with members of the Alabama School of the Arts voice department. This is a perfect way to start your Mardi Gras celebrations.
Organizational Supper Club Meeting
Sunday, January 26
5:00 p.m. following the Mass for Mobile Joyful Spectacular
We are pleased that in the past year we've had more and more members express an interest in forming and participating in a supper club. What a great way to get to know each other better! We anticipate the ability to form several groups which should allow some variety of options: different days of the week, times of day, home dinners or even some that might want to gather at restaurants.
Following the concert please join us for a brief wine and cheese informational and sign-up meeting in the Chapter House. We will distribute questionnaires for you to indicate your interests. If you cannot attend but would like to participate, please contact Meg Mattei at
mat342@aol.com and she will get you a form. Our goal is to be able to begin the supper clubs in February! See you on the 26th!
Forward Day by Day
Daily devotionals for the months of February, March, and April are on the ministry table.
United Thank Offering (UTO)
Ingathering this Sunday, January 12
The United Thank Offering (UTO) is a gift of the heart that goes into a small box. Bring your box filled over the Advent Season. Our offering goes with our love to the national Episcopal United Thank Offering and is then used to help provide support and educational opportunities to other Episcopalians. You may also place checks made payable to Christ Church Cathedral with a notation UTO in the offering plate.
Are You a Pledging Member?
Christ Church Cathedral is deeply grateful to those who have made an annual pledge for 2020. We are more than 66 percent toward our goal of 200 pledges. It isn't too late to become a pledging member-pledges are essential. While many churches and cathedrals our size have significant endowments to help fund mission and ministry, Christ Church Cathedral does not-89 percent of the funds for our work come from pledges and gifts from people like you.
To make a pledge, please pick up a pledge card on the ministry table in the Chapter House vestibule; contact Brenda Stanton, Financial Secretary, at
bstanton@christchurchcathedralmobile.org; or make a pledge online.
Pledge envelopes for everyone who requested them are on the credenza in the Chapter House vestibule. If you would like envelopes, please contact Brenda Stanton.
