The Chamber is Proud to Champion Our Business

Community by Connecting Leaders, Strengthening Local Commerce

and Helping Our Region Thrive Every Day!

Local nonprofits, school clubs, and community groups add great value to Teller County—but so do our Local Businesses. Today, many businesses are being asked for donations and sponsorships so frequently (5 to 7 times a day) that it is creating real strain and frustration.

Small businesses operate on narrow margins and face constant financial pressures, yet they continue to give generously. However, when the same businesses are approached multiple times, donor fatigue is inevitable. It is important to remember that businesses have the right to say no. A decline does not reflect a lack of care—it often reflects limited resources or prior commitments.

Before requesting support, organizations should consider their own role in the partnership. Do you patronize the businesses you ask? Do your members support them throughout the year? Do you provide meaningful recognition and follow through on what you promise? Reciprocity matters.

We are also seeing an increase in out-of-county organizations soliciting local businesses. While many causes are worthy, our business community naturally prioritizes local impact and local relationships.

Responsible, thoughtful solicitation strengthens partnerships; constant or pressure-driven asking weakens them. Protecting the health of our business community ensures they can continue supporting the causes that matter most to Teller County.
