Twenty-five years ago, we woke up on an ordinary September morning.

We went to work. We took our children to school. We poured a cup of coffee. We hurried through routines, never imagining that before the morning was over, our country—and all of us—would be forever changed.

On September 11, 2001, nearly 3,000 people never came home. Behind that number were husbands and wives, mothers and fathers, sons and daughters, friends and coworkers. There were firefighters climbing stairwells while others were trying desperately to get down. Police officers and first responders running toward unimaginable danger. Strangers helping strangers simply because, in that moment, another human being needed them.

And then came September 12.

American flags appeared on homes, businesses and street corners. Neighbors checked on neighbors. Churches filled. We thanked first responders. We held our families a little

tighter. For a precious moment in our history, the things that divided us seemed far less important than the things that bound us together.

A quarter of a century has now passed. Children born after that terrible morning are adults, and an entire generation knows September 11 only through photographs, videos and the stories we tell them.

That is why remembering matters.

We remember the lives that were taken. We remember the heroes who answered the call. We remember the families who carried an unimaginable loss forward for 25 years.

And perhaps, on this anniversary, we can also remember something America desperately needs to hold onto:

September 11 showed us the worst of humanity.

September 12 showed us the very best of America.

May we never forget either one.

A Night of Hope and New Beginnings for Animals in Need

TCRAS, the small but mighty animal shelter, is a shelter that strives to be better and do more for the animals that come through the door each year. Every animal is unique in their needs, but their hope for a new beginning is the same.

The animals in the kennels are not the only ones we support; the animals of the community deserve quality care for their well-being. This means community programs for low-cost vaccines, spaying and neuter-ing. By helping animals in the community stay healthy, our community is better.

Join us in November for an evening of wishes coming true, with a silent auction, a sit-down dinner, and a chance to help TCRAS continue our mission of Fostering Hope and New Beginnings.

Hunting Seasons Start in Colorado

How Hunters and Outdoor Recreationists Can Prepare

The 2026 hunting seasons have begun, and hunters are gearing up for exciting adventures. However, hunters aren’t the only ones rushing to the outdoors this fall to enjoy everything Colorado has to offer.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) emphasizes the shared responsibility of safety among hunters, hikers, bikers, leaf peepers, wildlife viewers, and OHV users. As most of Colorado's outdoors is multi-use, it's crucial for both hunters and nonhunters to show respect and courtesy to all users engaged in outdoor recreation.

A general knowledge of hunting season dates and safety tips can help keep you safe. See the 2026 Big Game Brochure for a complete list of season dates. Learn more about outdoor recreation opportunities in Colorado at cpw.state.co.us.
