THE IMPORTANCE OF SAYING "TRUMP" |
|
We completely understand anyone who refers to him as “The Former Guy” or “The Orange One.” We ourselves refer to him as “President Garbage Nightmare” and “The Fast Food Fascist.” It is fun and healthy to make fun of him. It’s painful to hear his name. And there’s the old truism about not giving the opponent free publicity by mentioning their name.
But it is important to say his name sometimes, and here’s why: Trump is our single greatest recruiting tool.
Trump embodies everything wrong with America. People understand this.
That’s why at voter drives, we get great responses from “Can you help me prevent the next Trump?” or “Can you help me save the world from Trumpism? We’re registering Democrats to vote.” In just a few seconds, we convey why we’re there – and we find our people.
It's also important to say “Trump” because we name the evil. We connect Trump to the Republican Party – to the fascism he seeks to enable – to the Republican politicians who serve him. You and I see these connections, but many Americans don't!
In the crucial Virginia governor’s race on November 2nd, Republican Glenn Youngkin is a Trump supporter who echoes all Trump’s talking points… but is trying his damnedest to never mention Trump for fear of alienating voters. Our Democratic candidate, former Governor Terry McAuliffe, is doing his best to shine a bright light on the fact that Youngkin is Trump Lite. (Which sounds like the world's grossest beer.)

IN-PERSON POSTCARD PARTIES TO REGISTER DEMS IN CA-39 WITH WAVE!
You may remember Field Team 6 partnering with the incredible activists at WAVE (Women for American Values and Ethics). They committed to sending 5,000 "let's get you registered" postcards to eligible voters in each of the following California swing districts: CA-39, CA-45, CA-48 and CA-49! That’s 20k postcards!
To support the effort in CA-39, super-volunteer Rachel Kirk, Postcard Captain for this joint project, has been organizing in-person postcard parties. We wanted to share a few upcoming dates with you as well as some photos… so you know that these really are, well, parties. Come for the food, stay for the saving of democracy.

DAY OF ACTION FOR CA-25
The voters of CA-25 are mobilizing! They’ve had enough of Republican Mike Garcia, who slithered into Katie Hill’s old seat and promptly became a vocal Trump stooge totally at odds with the vast majority of the people he claims to serve. He retained his seat by just 333 votes... in a district full of unregistered progressives.
In 2022 we'll send him packing – and we've been hard at work on this all year! So on Saturday, October 23 from 9:30a-3p PT Field Team 6, in association with a host of Democratic clubs and grassroots organizations, is holding a rally and Voter Registration Day of Action to reach out to Democratic households in the Antelope Valley.
We'll canvass with bilingual door hangers to make sure everyone in the family is registered to vote, let them know about Rep. Garcia’s abysmal voting record, and connect them to the Democratic community in the area.

FLIP VICTORVILLE BLUE!

Want to fight Trumpism and the GOP circus of horrors, and make a real difference? Registering Democrats is the #1 most effective way to do that... and now, once again, you can do that in person!
Join Field Team 6 and the San Bernardino County Democratic Party on Tuesday, October 26 from 10a-12p PT for an exciting, in-person, voter registration drive in CA-08. This district has leaned red, but its voters are finally realizing the GOP's policies don't benefit them in any way, shape or form. Let's make that crystal clear as we sign them up to vote as honest-to-God, democracy-loving Democrats! RSVP to join us right HERE.
No experience necessary. We'll start with a 15-minute training and deploy to some local hot spots. We'll have clipboards, forms, and pens. Just bring your smartphone or tablet (optional) a mask, a little water, sunscreen, some comfortable shoes, and maybe a hat.

VOLUNTEER SHOUT-OUT: LAUREN KRUEGER |
|
This week we’re shouting out Lauren Krueger, an amazing Field Team 6 volunteer who handles video editing for us, donating her valuable time and professional skills to the cause. Or as she puts it, “In my alternate life, I edit video for less karma and more money.”
Lauren lives in a colorful place: “a white house where we vote blue in a red neighborhood in a purple town on Long Island with my husband Matthew, two kids (ages 4 and 9), and a yellow budgie named Falafel.”
As soon as Lauren started volunteering for Field Team 6, she knew it was a good fit. “My first experience with FT6 was being dropped in the middle of the ‘Sh!t Show’ (our hilarious Maxine Lapidus-driven fundraiser in 2020) and right then, I knew I’d found my people.”
But Lauren also helps out with Moms Demand Action, Vote Forward, Lawyer Moms Foundation, and the ACLU.
Which causes is she most passionate about? “Meet me at the intersection of food justice, sustainability, anti-racism, and gender equality.”
Her most recent FT6 project? Fun training videos for our postcarding system. Lauren feels lucky she can ply her editing trade to help fight for the things she believes in. “There has never been a more important reason for me to do what I love to do. I’m so grateful for the opportunity.”
She’s also passionate about growing things, spicy food, reducing waste, and Tana French books. What sort of future does she dream about? “I have this recurring dream where a certain senator falls down a hole. Is that what you mean?”
Lauren, we so love your sense of humor, passion, and hard work for Field Team 6. We’re proud to be working side by side with you to help create a better, greener, bluer tomorrow.
