Dear Friends:

When it comes to embracing a challenge, Jackson Health System routinely comes through with great efficiency and outstanding results. We are witnessing that now with the exceptional work that Jackson’s team is doing with the COVID-19 vaccine roll-out, and we could not be more proud of what they have accomplished. While others have struggled to develop a plan for deploying the vaccine, Jackson has successfully administered more than 100,000 shots of first and second doses, which amounts to roughly one-third of Miami-Dade County. Although there is still much more ground to cover, Jackson is committed to reaching as many people as possible, based on the number of vaccines available and according to state and federal guidelines.

Later this week, Jackson will launch a community education campaign to share information about the COVID-19 vaccine and its distribution in Miami-Dade County. The campaign includes a virtual Town Hall featuring Jackson experts who will speak on the vaccine's efficacy and safety, and address common myths. We share more information about the Town Hall in this issue of our newsletter.

As Jackson continues with the vaccine roll-out, the health system is also forging ahead in other areas that impact our community’s health and well-being. This Wednesday, February 10, Jackson will unveil its new online heart health screening tool, just in time for American Heart Month. Our newsletter shares more information about the tool, which helps individuals age 45 and older determine their risk for heart attack or stroke.

In addition to its designation as American Heart Month, February has long been acknowledged as the month of love. We can genuinely say that we feel the love from our entire philanthropic family. Thank you for continuing to support our foundation.

Sincerely,
Charmaine Gatlin

Critical Care Pavilion At Jackson Memorial Hospital Opening in March
The new Critical Care Pavilion at Jackson Memorial is set to open in March. Located on top of our Diagnostic Treatment Center – the main entrance to Jackson Memorial Hospital – this three-story tower will feature two floors outfitted with 54 ICU beds, and shell space to add another 27 beds down the line.

Jackson projects a growth of ICU needs in the future as we continue to build signature services, like cardiac surgery, neurosurgery, and transplant. In 2019 and 2020, our Miami Transplant Institute was the largest transplant program in the nation. This addition will provide the extra capacity to take care of all of those transplant patients post-surgery – and it will ensure that Jackson remains the Number One place to go for the highest quality critical care in the region. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the need for critical care beds has never been more important.

Donations from generous, compassionate donors like you help Jackson build facilities like the Critical Care Pavilion to provide quality medical care to patients in need during these challenging times. Click here to make a donation today.
