The 13th Annual Pleasures of Tea was a beautiful event, which received glowing feedback! Nearly 50 women and men enjoyed music played by pianist, Lydia Sabosto, proper tea prepared by Claudia Taylor, finger sandwiches prepared by Chef Nicole Roarke, and homemade desserts baked by members of our congregation.
Heartfelt thanks to the volunteers who freely gave their time and talents: Chrissy Blair, Pam Barr, Zully & Anna Diaz, Linda & Rick Disney, Karen & Lilah Eten, Kathy
Ljungqvist, Titus Kana, Gail Mattson, Liz Roarke, Mary Elizabeth Roarke, Carol Rohde, Barbara Sabosto, and Kathy Walker. Also, to Jen McCarrick, for her attention to detail, to Bill Paauwe for donating the violet centerpieces, to the local vendors and businesses who donated items and gift certificates for the raffles, and ALL the bakers who made the dessert table so inviting! Finally, to Pastor Dwight, who gave us his feedback every step of the way.
Their love and attention made this fundraiser a huge success. Thank you!

SUNDAY SCHOOL NEWS
The Sunday School children we very excited to give out the Mother's Day butterfly seed gifts we prepared this year. Behind the planting instructions was a special message or drawing from the children for every mother to enjoy!
We want to thank Olivia for being our acolyte this Sunday. This was her first time as acolyte and was so excited to do it!
In Sunday School, the children are learning bible stories that teach the value and meaning of friendship.
We are winding down the Sunday School year. There will be NO SUNDAY SCHOOL on 5/26. In June, we will be having a Sunday School field day and will help serve at the Ice Cream Social. Stay tuned for more details in June!
Blessings as Always,
The Sunday School Co-Directors

FROM THE HISTORIAN
Two hundred years ago, I, as a woman would not be allowed to stand up here in the pastor's pulpit to talk to you, the congregation, in this manner, That's the way it really was somewhere between one hundred eighty three and one hundred and ninety three years ago (this presentation was given in 1976 as one in a series involving the celebration of the Bicentennial of the United States of America) , when our ancestors first began to worship here in Winthrop's Patent, South, at the Second Strict Congregational Church of Brookhaven.
If, for instance, I were being examined by the congregation as a candidate for membership or if I had a "conversion" experience to relate, proper decorum required that I stand in front of the congregation with eyes cast demurely downward. Whatever I had to say, I would whisper it to a Deacon or an Elder who would be standing close by. He in turn would condescend to relay my words to the pastor or to the congregation. To paraphrase a contemporary saying, "We've come a long way baby!"
To be continued...
