A BEAUTIFUL WAY TO START THE DAY I have read the Bible many times and have found no evidence that Jesus ever took the summer off. Therefore, my philosophy has always been that neither should we. But I am also confident that when the Spring breezes wafted over the Sea of Galilee, Jesus took some time-off to go swimming, grill some fish and play frisbee (or the equivalent). Jesus also said, "the poor shall always be with you." I take "the poor" to include those who cannot afford to go to Fire Island or other exciting vacations by land or sea. And I take "the poor" to include those who are grieving or ill at a time when many other persons are at the beach when its "summertime when the livin' is easy." And I take "the poor" to include, on a less dramatic level, those who simply prefer to start their Sunday and their week with one hour of devotion, prayer, praise, music, scripture, and sermon. I really enjoy worship at our church in the summer. I enjoy the informality and the lack of fuss. I enjoy listening to soloists (the choir is on sabbatical during July and August). I enjoy the intimate setting of the Reception Room and the special bond with the Summer Service People. And I enjoy knowing that we are "present and accounted for" in case someone needs us. For the remaining Sundays between now and Labor Day, we meet at 9AM ~ NOT AT 10AM. I hope to see you in church, otherwise please continue to be with us in Spirit; wherever you may wander, wherever you may roam. Blessings & Health, Pastor Dwight

FROM THE HISTORIAN I just wanted to give you all the information that I have on the photo exhibit: Mirrors of the Past, soon to be on display at the ARTSPACE Gallery, 20 Terry Street, Patchogue. Our History Room provided some of the photos that will be on display there and it is a wonderful and informative look into Patchogue's past. The exhibit will be on display July 2, 2014 through July 17, 2014. There will be a Reception on Saturday, July 12, 2014 from 4 to 7 PM. The hours during which the exhibit will be open will be Thursday through Friday 5 - 9 PM, Saturday 1 - 7 PM and Sunday 1 - 5 PM. This exhibit is sponsored by the Greater Patchogue Historical Society, ARTSPACE, and the Village of Patchogue. Please stop by. Shirley Werner, Historian FROM THE STEWARDSHIP COMMITTEE

Summer VBS Program
July 6, July 13 & July 20 will be the dates of the Summer Agents of Truth Program. We have great plans in store for the children including a scavenger hunt, puzzles, and games. The children will be learning about the Bible stories including Jesus Feeds the 5000 and The Parable of the Sower. We need 2 additional teachers for the summer and look forward to sharing the fun with any parents who would like to join us. Summer VBS will be at 9:00 am during Sunday Worship.
Summer VBS Program
Week 1: Wear Black and Bring Sun Glasses
Week 2: Bring a Plastic Spoon
Week 3: Bring a Pack of Seeds
The children are going to love what we do with these things each week. All children age 3 and older are welcome in the summer VBS. If you have any questions please call or email me. This is going to be a great summer!
Library News
Please bring your library books back to the library for the summer inventory. You are welcome to bring the library books any Sunday and leave them on the desk in the library.
Fall Confirmation Class
If you have a child that is in 8th or 9th grade and has not made their confirmation, this is a great time to start thinking about our fall class. Please know that the child does not need to have attended Sunday School in the past to become a part of the confirmation class, which is a 2 year program. If you are interested in this class for someone, perhaps a grandchild or your own child please contact Tammy Torelli though the church office.
I hope this week will be a blessing to you and your family.
Yours in Christ,
Tammy Torelli, Sunday School Director
