Finding Purpose and Passion at Berglund Animal Hospital

After graduating from Evanston Township High School, Paige had goals for herself. She wanted a job working with animals and to move out with her best friend. Animals always had a special place in her life, and caring for three dogs at home—a corgi-beagle mix, a Chiweenie, and a Maltipoo—gave her confidence and skills with the everyday responsibilities of a pet owner.

Berglund Animal Hospital, in her hometown, was a natural fit. “Paige has a love and passion for animals,” shared Tracy, the Lead Client Service Representative, “and is always willing to share a story about her dogs at home.” she continued.

Dr. Fionnuala (Lu) Teuber, the owner of Berglund Animal Hospital, worked with TotalLink to identify responsibilities that the hospital needed with Paige's strengths and skills. Paige restocks medical supplies, sanitizes exam rooms, does laundry, files patient records, and helps keep the waiting area organized and clean. Working as a Veterinary Support Associate has allowed Paige to expand her skill set, including working with a team and adhering to essential safety rules around hurt or sick animals.

Now, Paige can focus on her next big goal: moving out with her best friend. Our guess is the place will need to allow animals.

Creating Community This Summer!

Pictured above promoting Total Goodness: Maddy, Jane, Teri Rosenberg, State Representative Tracy Katz Muhl.

Farmers' markets and summer events bring community members out to enjoy food, homemade goods, music, and beautiful weather. They promote a sense of belonging and community connection, which are important indicators for a high quality of life.

They also are a lot of hard work. TotalLink adults volunteer their time to help set up and take down the tent and supplies, practice their sales pitch to sell our Total Goodness products, use technology to take payment, and, as ambassadors, tell everyone about the TotalLink mission. They also volunteer with other community members at TotalLink Make Days to handmake the Total Goodness collection we sell.

We are grateful to live in a community with various summer events that create opportunities for connection, skill development, and sharing of TotalLink’s mission. This summer, we participated in the Northbrook and Highwood markets, Flamingo Friday Kickoff in Northbrook, St. Norbert’s Block Party, and Northbrook Days. It’s not too late to visit one of our booths. We’ll be at Wagner Farm’s market on September 7th and have some great Total Goodness products and art available.
