Employer Spotlight:

Julie's Talents Shine at
B'nai Jehoshua Beth Elohim

Walk into B'nai Jehoshua Beth Elohim (BJBE) on a Tuesday or Friday, and you'll likely find Julie greeting visitors or preparing materials in the art room. Since joining the team, she has brought warmth, dedication, and a natural talent for helping the community feel welcomed and supported.

Her role was shaped through a collaborative process between Julie, her mom, Susan, TotalLink Employment Specialist, Bridget, and BJBE's Director of Jewish Living and Learning, Susie Wexler. As Susan shared, "Julie is so happy with her new job at BJBE. When we sat down with the temple staff, we were asked how to best support Julie, and they were eager to accommodate her needs in any possible way. Our hearts were touched, and we are so very grateful."

Julie's presence has been equally meaningful for BJBE. As Susie Wexler reflected, "Having Julie at BJBE brings warmth and joy to our space."

And Julie feels the same sense of belonging. "I love it so much. I always can't wait to come back. I also feel productive here," she shared.

Julie’s story highlights how someone’s talents are able to shine when they’re connected with a workplace that values them.

Our Families Spoke. We Listened. And Together, We're Building Confidence and Community.

At TotalLink, our programs grow stronger when we listen to the people who know our participants best, their families. This fall, families shared a desire for more opportunities to learn, ask questions, and feel supported as they navigate the often-complex landscape of disability services. In response, we hosted three free workshops designed around the real concerns and hopes of our community.

These sessions offered practical tools, spaces for meaningful conversations, and a deeper sense of connection. Families left with greater clarity, confidence, and resources they could use right away.

Exploring Housing Possibilities

In partnership with A Happy Life and Engage IL, the My Place, My Life workshop helped families explore housing options and plan for greater independence.

Strengthening Safety and Self-Advocacy

With Equip for Equality, Safe and Strong focused on understanding rights and recognizing signs of abuse, neglect, or mistreatment. Participants learned how to respond safely and speak up when their rights are being violated.

Tools for Decision-Making and Growing Independence

Our final workshop, Who Helps Me Decide?, offered guidance on decision-making options and the supports that promote independence and self-determination.

We are grateful to our partners and especially to our families for helping us shape programs that truly matter.

Thanks to Max & Benny’s, First Bank Chicago, and the Rotary Club of Northbrook, for helping make this morning possible.

The panel featured leaders from ProAuto, Pinstripes, First Bank Chicago, Max & Benny’s, and TotalLink. Their stories and strategies underscored a shared message: inclusive hiring is good for people and good for business.

Meet Amara: TotalLink's Artist of the Month

A meaningful life isn’t about doing everything right; it’s about doing the "right things." As the year comes to a close, there is still time to make the “right things” possible for adults with disabilities. At TotalLink, the right things are the moments that build a meaningful life - a paycheck earned with pride, friendships that offer true belonging, skills that spark confidence, and opportunities that help each person grow and thrive.

Your year-end gift helps make these "right things" happen. When you give to TotalLink, you help open doors to meaningful employment, supportive relationships, and inclusive experiences that empower adults with disabilities to live fuller, more connected lives.

Make your year-end gift today and help someone begin 2026
with purpose, possibility, and belonging.
