Sunlight streamed through the windows as our Girlfriends Group gathered for an afternoon of music, reflection, and connection. This wasn’t just any get-together—it was the Rhythm of Recovery, a program led by a local NAMI partner and facilitator that uses the power of song to explore mental health, self-expression, and community.
At first, there was a mix of excitement and uncertainty. Singing together felt vulnerable, and the idea of writing a song from scratch was a little intimidating. But as the afternoon unfolded, something incredible happened. The group eased into the experience—singing familiar tunes, sharing stories, and slowly, piece by piece, crafting lyrics that reflected their journey as friends and as individuals.
The result? A bold, uplifting, girl-power anthem filled with words of support, resilience, and love. The song became more than just lyrics on a page - it was a declaration of strength, a testament to the unbreakable bond they had built together. And when they sang it aloud for the first time, voices blending in harmony, there wasn’t a single person who didn’t feel its power.
At that moment, it didn’t matter that they came from different backgrounds or had faced different struggles. What mattered was that they showed up for one another, proving that even when life gets messy, true friendship means standing together, lifting each other up, and never letting go.
That afternoon was a reminder that music has the power to heal, to unite, and to remind us that no one walks this journey alone. And for our Girlfriends Group, it was an experience they won’t soon forget.
