IS KNOWING THE FUTURE IMPORTANT?
An ongoing study on the prophetic sister books of
Daniel & Revelation.
Greetings my brothers and sisters of the remnant church. We continue to pray as always that ALL is very well with you, your families, church families, personal and public ministries, and your walk with the Lord. Daily events lend more support to the fact that the second coming of our Lord cannot be far off. The "end of all things" is certainly near (1 Peter 4:7). Do these sorrowful events awaken us to the solemn fact that we have a great work to do in warning our families and humanity at large? Do we have very little time to do this? Does inspiration validate this?
"Are we to wait until the fulfillment of the prophecies of the end before we say anything concerning them? Of what value will our words be then? Shall we wait until God's judgments fall upon the transgressor before we tell him how to avoid them? Where is our faith in the word of God? Must we see things foretold come to pass before we will believe what He has said? In clear, distinct rays light has come to us, showing us that the great day of the Lord is near at hand, “even at the doors.” Let us read and understand before it is too late." {Testimonies, Vol. 9, p. 20.1}

Today we are continuing our long-term study on the prophetic books of Daniel and Revelation, gathering relevant information from several sources, but our main source will be God's Holy Word, the Bible. We are not placing a time frame on this study. As we near the close of time, a deeper knowledge and understanding of these profound prophetic books is essential.

They will be given such glimpses of the open gates of heaven that heart and mind will be impressed with the character that all must develop in order to realize the blessedness which is to be the reward of the pure in heart." {Testimonies To Ministers, p. 114.3}
In our last edition of 'The Manna Report', we laid a foundation on how necessary it is that these two books (Daniel and Revelation) be studied together. We also studied what the term "present truth" means biblically. Let's start with a short review before we continue.

In verse 12 of 2 Peter chapter 1 is found the promise that we can be firmly established in the present truth. Verses 5-7 give us the divine recipe to accomplish this. The Bible gives us another term for present truth in Matthew 24:45, which is "meat in due season." But what is "meat in due season?"
"God does not now accept a tame, spiritless testimony from His ministers. Such a testimony would not be present truth. The message for this time must be meat in due season to feed the church of God." {Selected Messages, Book 1, p. 124.3}
We all know that the term "meat" in scripture either refers to physical food, or, in the case of Matthew 24:45, spiritual food.
The root and core of meat in due season, or, present truth, is overcoming sin through the power of the indwelling Christ. By assimilating all of the loving attributes of His perfect character, we can perfectly reflect His image. We learned that from 2 Peter chapter 1. However, the overriding burden of the term meat in due season, or, present truth, is that it is a warning message from Heaven that is especially designated for a specific time; in other words, it is a message given in advance notice to allow time for God's people to begin the process of preparing for an emergency. Put another way, the warning of the destruction of Jerusalem was not present truth for Martin Luther; and the warning of the 70-year Babylonian captivity was not present truth for Noah.
"There are many precious truths contained in the Word of God, but it is “present truth” that the flock needs now." {Early Writings, p. 63.1}
The present truth (warning message) for God's people in our time is the Third Angel's Message of Revelation 14:6-14, which includes, of course, the second coming of our Lord (verse 14). But saints, I have a very interesting question to ask you.
If the third angel's message, which includes the first and second angel's messages, is our present truth; and the coming flood was Noah's present truth message; and the present truth for Lot was the destruction of Sodom, etc. etc. etc., here is my question:

What was the present truth message or meat in due season for the parents of Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah?

It all began back in 2 Kings 20. The bible teaches us that King Hezekiah was "sick unto death" (verse 1). The prophet Isaiah told Hezekiah to "Set thine house in order; for thou shalt die, and not live" (verse 1). What did Hezekiah do next? Well, I imagine the same thing we would do if we were given such a profound report about the end of our lives.
2 Kings 20:2 "Then he turned his face to the wall, and prayed unto the Lord."
In verse 3, the bible says that after his prayer, Hezekiah "wept sore." Then in verse 5, the Lord tells Isaiah regarding Hezekiah, "I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will heal thee." Then, in verse 6, the Lord says something absolutely remarkable:
2 Kings 20:6 "And I will add unto thy days fifteen years."
What a loving, caring, compassionate, merciful, gracious Lord we serve! Imagine being told while at death's doorstop that you will live an additional 1.5 decades! But then, in verse 7, what does Isaiah do? He conducts gospel medical missionary work.
2 Kings 20:7 "And Isaiah said, Take a lump of figs. And they took and laid it on the boil, and he recovered."
2 Corinthians 10:11 "Now all these things happened unto them for examples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come."
In verses 8-11 of 2 Kings 20, Hezekiah asks Isaiah for a sign that the Lord would heal him. The Lord then performs a miracle, setting the shadow of the sun dial of Ahaz backwards ten degrees. After this, Hezekiah was presented with a golden opportunity to glorify the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob. Let's read the account brought to view in 2 Chronicles:
2 Chronicles 20:31 "Howbeit in the business of the ambassadors of the princes of Babylon, who sent unto him to enquire of the wonder that was done in the land, God left him, to try him, that he might know all that was in his heart."
Do you think that God ever tries you and me, to know all that is in our hearts? He most certainly does. How did Hezekiah respond?
2 Kings 20:13 "And Hezekiah hearkened unto them, and shewed them ALL the house of his precious things, the silver, and the gold, and the spices, and the precious ointment, and ALL the house of his armour, and ALL that was found in his treasures: there was nothing in his house, nor in ALL his dominion, that Hezekiah shewed them not."
Brother/sister, unfortunately, Hezekiah failed to glorify the Lord; he instead glorified himself. What was the result?
2 Kings 20:14 "Then came Isaiah the prophet unto king Hezekiah, and said unto him, What said these men? and from whence came they unto thee? And Hezekiah said, They are come from a far country, even from Babylon."
2 Kings 20:15 "And he said, What have they seen in thine house? And Hezekiah answered, ALL THE THINGS that are in MINE HOUSE have they seen: there is nothing among MY TREASURES that I have not shewed them."
2 Kings 20:16 "And Isaiah said unto Hezekiah, Hear the word of the Lord."
2 Kings 20:17 "Behold, the days come, that all that is in thine house, and that which thy fathers have laid up in store unto this day, shall be carried into Babylon: nothing shall be left, saith the Lord."
Isaiah prophesied the unfortunate and irreversible consequences of Hezekiah's sin: the seventy-year Babylonian captivity of the people of God.
2 Kings 20:18 "And of thy sons that shall issue from thee, which thou shalt beget, shall they take away; and they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon."
According to Daniel chapter 1, the prophecy of 2 Kings 20:18 was fulfilled to the very letter. We'll study this more in our next issue. But something else needs to be considered within this prophecy.
The prophecy concerning the posterity of Hezekiah became present truth for the next several generations until it was finally fulfilled in 597 BC. Many outstanding young men, including Daniel, Azariah, Mishael, Hananiah, Ezekiel, and others, were carried away to Babylon.
Study Question: What exactly was the present truth for the parents of these and many other very young patriarchs?
Study Answer: Their present truth was Preparation for the Impending Crisis; specifically, the Preparation of THEIR CHILDREN for the Impending Crisis. Is the Lord consistent? Does He change?
