Clerk’s Report to the Congregation
– July 19, 2026
Here are this month’s highlights:
1. Session has scheduled a congregational meeting immediately following worship next Sunday, July 26, 2026, for the purpose of electing a deacon to fill the vacancy on the Board of Deacons. Diane Cooley has graciously agreed to be nominated for a 3-year Deacon term. Please plan to attend the meeting and cast your vote.
2. Session is pleased to welcome Ann Marie Petry and Bryn Van Way into membership, pending their public profession of faith at an upcoming service. Ann Marie and Bryn have each attended Newport for several months, sing in the choir, and have participated in other church activities. Please join Session in officially welcoming them to Newport.
3. Session elected Jeff Jacobs and Kerry Johnson to serve as corporation president and vice-president, respectively, through June 2027, and appointed the following committee conveners:
a. Communications and Outreach – Dori Yang
b. Faith Experience - Heather McClure-Coleman
c. Mission and Peacemaking - Lois Brandt
d. Personnel - Cris Wilkinson
e. Property - Steve Johnson
f. Stewardship and Finance - Betty Meyer
g. Tenant Care Team - Linda Hunter
4. Session authorized Property to update the signs posted at Newport’s three entrances, to clarify that Newport is private property, to clarify the property rules, to welcome neighbors who visit the campus as long as they follow the property rules, and to enable the Bellevue Police Department to help us move people along who park without authorization or who disturb our safe parking guests.
5. We continue to partner with the City of Bellevue and 4 Tomorrow with the hope of welcoming the City’s safe parking program to the Newport campus. In early July we submitted additional information as requested by the City’s permitting department. As we wait for next steps in the permitting process, we will be working to further define possible elements of an eventual agreement. We will continue to keep the congregation informed.
Session thanks you again for your support and prayers.
