Advocacy success: West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice vetoes bill to eliminate osteopathic medical board


The Senate bill would have eliminated the state board of osteopathic medicine and transferred its DO regulatory duties to the MD board. Justice acknowledged there are two distinct categories of the medical profession and should be treated as such to preserve the values of each one.

Harshbarger responds to criticism of proposed FAIR Act


In the publication Health Affairs, Rep. Diana Harshbarger (R-Tenn.) offered clarification and reiterated the benefits of the Fair Access In Residency (FAIR) Act, of which she is a co-sponsor. The FAIR Act is aimed at improving fairness and reducing stress for osteopathic applicants in residency programs.

Casey, Wicker Introduce Bill to Increase Health Care Access in Rural Communities


US Senators Bob Casey (D-PA) and Roger Wicker (R-MS) introduced the Community Training, Education, and Access for Medical Students (TEAMS) Act to increase training opportunities for medical students in rural, underserved communities with a nationwide grant program.
