The NBOME announced new developments for the two pathways for clinical skills competency verification: the Core Competency Capstone for DOs (C3DO) or the Comprehensive Competency Verification.

Starting with the Class of 2029, these provide options to document achievement of nationally standardized osteopathic clinical skills competency as part of eligibility for COMLEX-USA Level 3.

NRMP Match Timeline

For those DO seniors and graduates planning to participate in the 2026-2027 Match cycle, we have compiled this comprehensive timeline, including key dates from the NRMP and specialty matches.

Level 1 and 2-CE 
 Enhancements

Starting May 7, the NBOME implemented enhancements to COMLEX-USA 1 and Level 2-CE, including modifications to examination item count and a new break structure to provide more flexibility for test takers during their examination administration. 

New COMAT Nutrition in Patient Care 
 Examination Series

Starting in August 2027, the new series—designed for first- through fourth-year osteopathic medical students—will assess the nutrition knowledge and competencies essential to effective patient care.

⭐ DO Schools Top US News Rankings in Primary Care, Rural Placement

Osteopathic medical schools dominated the latest rankings in U.S. News and World Report, making up nine of the top 10 schools for graduates entering primary care and holding strong representation in rural and medically underserved areas.

⭐ Osteopathic Medical School Applications Jump More than 12 Percent

The American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine released its 2026 application cycle report showing a 12.83 percent increase in applications to osteopathic medical schools from the previous year.
