February 2018

Ash Wednesday is February 14
Services at 12 noon at 7 p.m.

Wednesdays at 6 p.m.
February 21 - March 21
Join us each week for a Lenten journey to deepen our faith.  We will share a light meal in the fellowship hall followed by an inspirational faith talk, reminding us that even though the journey to become Christ-like doesn't come without costs, the victory was already "In the Bag" for Jesus.  As a physical reminder you are encouraged to bring personal-care items or a gently used hand-bag to share with the homeless women and children supported by our church through Family Promise. Lenten giving this year will be directed to our community partner Family Promise.

Family Lenten Devotions from  Sparkhouse Family

"T he cross is a symbol of our faith. Wherever you see it, think of it as an invitation from your friend, Jesus. Jesus invites us to follow and live like him, notice his love in action in the world, and welcome God's love and grace into our lives."

We still have a few spots in our 4-year-old and PreK class.
If you know of anyone with a three or four year old, tell them about our preschool!

Chick-fil-A Spirit Nights
Monday, February 26 anytime between 5 and 7 p.m.
Monday, March 26 anytime between 5 and 7 p.m.

Enjoy dinner at Chick-fil-A on one of these evenings to support Our Saviours' kiddos. Chick-fil-A gives the preschool a portion of the proceeds from that night...all you have to do is eat!

Youth Spring Semester Plans

High School Youth
This spring, our high school youth will continue to get together with Evan Clayton and  Rachel Drew on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month.  We are also going to the LYO Assembly retreat in  Greensboro on February  23 - 25.  Stay tuned for the exciting things we have planned!

Please save the following Sunday dates for our youth group gatherings:
  • February 4 and 18
  • *LYO Retreat (Feb. 23-25)
  • March 4 and 18
  • April 15
  • May 6 and 20

For our spring semester we will be tackling some of the tougher questions about our
life of faith.  Some of these questions include: "Why should I pray when God doesn't answer all my prayers? Can I be a  Christian without going to church? Why does God let bad things happen? and What if my friends aren't  Christian?" We will continue to meet twice a month at the church - please check your confirmation calendar for  our gathering dates.

Kids on Fire (3rd-5th grade youth)
During the second half of the year, our 3rd-5th graders will continue to meet with Lynn Antil and Karen Margolis on the second Sunday of the month from 2 - 4pm for service projects, fellowship and devotions.

Please save these dates for our get togethers:
  • February 11
  • March 11
  • April 8

Do you have pictures or information to share in the next newsletter?

A Word of Thanks

The quilts arrived at The Woodlands, Texas Lutheran Church.  The quilting group is so pleased with the quality of the quilts that we sent. Many thanks to all who quilted and tied quilts for us in September.

Your work is greatly appreciated! What a thrill to know that these quilts will be distributed to victims of the hurricane Harvey.

The Rev. Linn Fisher, Pastor
The Rev. Meghan Richter, Associate Pastor
Pastor David R. Keck, Pastor Emeritus
